I like it! No dark panel lines visible. History on the package too, a Corgi trademark. Wish others would do this (HM Witty).

Gear up only right?

Still, a nice piece.

Looks good. I like it. I think that the gear can be displayed down. Now I see the pic, and it can be.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

I meant down... So it's up or down then how is it different from an AA series plane? No pilot for $10...

Looks nice but appears that the Corgi is $10 more than a Hobby Master version. I don't mind paying more if I get more. Would have been cool to have a open rear canopy with gunner.

I really like this one too, and even though I have the HM Battle of Midway SBD, I'll be picking this one up too. Richard Best led a 3-ship that put the Akagi out of action (at least I think it was the Akagi...). So this particular model has some historic significance that appeals to me personally.

Flexibility is the key to airpower.
Indecision is therefore the key to Airpower.

Well, I only hope that Corgi will improve its writing when it comes to booklets and inserts, in both, orthographic and historical accuracy. I've found so many errors of every kind in those booklets over the years, that it's not even funny. Also, thew writing itself was on primitive side.

That being said, booklets that came with Forgotten and Unsung Heroes series Armor models were superb, detailing a combat history of the modeled vehicle. I hope that Predator series inserts will be able to match this effort.

Regards,

Sergey

You are correct- it was the Akagi. When the two squadrons of Enterprise dive-bombers arrived over the Japanese fleet they were in overall command of Wade McCluskey. He was a fighter pilot and wasn't 100% up to speed on dive-bomber doctrine. What should have happened was the leading squadron commanded by Best should have attacked Kaga while the other squadron attacked Akagi. McCluskey reversed that and radioed instructions. At the same time Best radioed that he was attacking according to doctrine. The messages appear to have happened at the same time and neither was heard.

The result was both squadrons moved to attack Kaga. At the last moment Best realized what was happening and broke off his dive to go after Akagi. Two planes went with him. Kaga was swarmed by two squadrons minus the two planes. Best lead the three plane attack on Akagi which caught her by surprise and resulted in one hit by Best and two near misses. That one hit doomed Akagi. The battle might have had a different result if Best hadn't made that hit.

That makes this aircraft probably the most significant plane in naval aviation history- certainly more significant than any plane of a famous fighter ace. In fact I'd say that other than Enola Gay this is arguably the most important single aircraft in World War II.
