As djjeffhall asked, does it come with missiles?

Saw one at my local hobby store - NO MISSILES, only rocket pods.

Raven,
Thanks for the intel.

Berkut76,
I surmise Corgi just got sloppy. As I've posted elsewhere, Corgi seems to often come really close to doing a great model, and then blows the details. I guess we will all have to stick to the Hobby Master planes?

The missiles have already been fired and are up the backside of a US Phantom.

Re: Pr99404 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21PF Fishbed D

Honestly, I'm concerned about weapon load out on Vietnamese MiG-21 as done by by Corgi. Usually they carried four AA-2 Atoll missiles (R-3, R-3S or even R-3R configuration) and not the unguided rocket launcher for air to ground attacks as done by Corgi.

Regards,

Sergey

Thats correct, the NVAF had very few Mig 21's & used them very sparingly.
They went as far as they could to keep them from dogfighting with US air aircraft as possible.
The Mig 21 was used in classic hit & run tactics most of the time.
The NVAF would lure US aircraft in with slower Mig-17's then have the Mig 21 speed in surpersonic fire their missiles & speed away.

Ground attack just does not seem like a mission the NVAF would use the Mig 21 for based on history.

I have it on good authority from someone within the Russian aerospace industry that also happends to be a historian and who goes back to the bad old days that Russian pilots were at times crewing NVAF MiG-21s.

Whether or not that is true, good radar coverage of South Vietnam would have made any attempt at CAS suicidal.

If they were, I doubt that they would have been allowed to cross into S. Vietnam. Can you imagine the trouble if one of these guy's have been shot down and captured. I'm sure that it would have caused a situation that would have quite easily snowballed.

Because it doesn't have missiles? Wow, you guys are a tough crowd.
I received this one and the Dauntless, and I have to say that I like them better than the HM versions.

HM won't be making a PF Variant so this model, despite not having missiles, won't be a deal breaker for me.

Re: Pr99404 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21PF Fishbed D

Im waiting for the next Mig 21 by Hobby Master/Corgi.
The silver with the green spotted camo is the classic NVAF Mig in my eyes, so Im excited it's release.

As for as the other NVAF Mig I dont see a problem with it not having missiles, still a great lookig model.
Im just counfued over the air to ground load out.

LOL I try not to be a rivet counter when it comes to models.
The Air War in Vietnam is a big area of interest for me.
So the historically incorrect weapons load just stuck out to me, more so than it would on a aircraft from a war I have lesser interest in or knowledge of.

My god I hope im not turning into a rivet counter

Re: Pr99404 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21PF Fishbed D

Admin,
Hey there.

You really like the Corgi over the Hobby Master? May I ask why? I'm not intending to challenge your views, just curious on what catches your eye more in the Corgi bird? After the first few reviews came out, I had decided to drop any pf the Corgi planes that Hobby Master is also making. If you are saying they are better, I'll gladly listen and give them a second look. Thanks
