Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

I agree, you normally don't see aircraft sitting in a museum weathered severely so that's just how I like mine. But I'm sure my opinion is in the minority there

I do not disagree. I've seen pictures of nicely weathered aircraft, and like them, but have no problem with "factory fresh" finishes either.

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

I concede on the rockets but for the mold detail I give matchbox 2 thumbs up.Even the guns on Matchbox are superior and you get lots of stenciling. if some guys like bright clean and crisp these are excellent models(the p-38's by corgi) I was just expecting so much more I guess. Too vanilla icecream for me. I will just have to wait for better or settle....................I think the marge is the better of the two though for more markings.

Sorry, I don't agree.. The Matchbox P-38s are "toyish" compared to the Corgi offerings, with huge screw/rivet holes in the bottom, ill-fitting stands and sloppy details.. Sure, the Matchbox P-38 looks good in some respects, but the Corgi Lightning is SO much better, IMHO... The landing gear fit great in both my examples and the closed gear doors fit fine also.. The props are correct and spin in the correct direction when blown on, the Corgi version also has the correct antenna on the underside of the fuselage.. The "silver" superchargers even look good, although I think I would've preferred the carmel colored ones better..

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

Yes, I agree - my MB P-38's are toyish in some regards (rocket racks for one). But it is also what I'd expect for $12.99 at Target. I payed almost $40.00 for my Corgi P-38 and being 3+ years after the MB release, I would have expected more from the pooch in the level of detail, quality and WOW factor (improve upon what is already out there). Especially, when the competion is getting very tough in the marketplace.

What I don't understand is how Corgi can produce some real gems (Swordfish for one) and then drop the ball on others - IMHO, of couse.

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

Interesting debate, with good points on each side. I myself quite like the Corgi model; so far I have only Bong's Marge but I am very satisfied. There is a significant issue about price, of course, but overall the comparison of Matchbox to Corgi is not, in my opinion, a true apples to apples comparison. I also have each MB -38 and like both, but also only paid Target retail.

I do give Corgi credit for at least one detail. The image of Marge on the nose has a tinge of color. Bong had black and white photographic prints of his fiancee made and glued to the nose, and replaced them when they wore off. The prints were hand-tinted with color and were not applied purely black and white, as appears the case in most photos.

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

As Harry said, they mounted all different caliber weapons. Look at the size of this gun.

The picture is definetly not from a real Ju-88 This is some bad replica...

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

It does look bad my guess it was pieced together from wrecks with some other parts modified. It looks fake. The nose is all wrong.

Here is another picture from a different angle. Plane looks real to me, can't swear about the gun.

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

Funny the nose on this picture looks very different from all the JU I've seen in pictures.

Re: Corgi JU-88 and P-38

It looks like they took a solid nosed later model and converted it back to an early Ju-88.. But as I said previously, Ju-88s were versatile, many with all different types of armament and some even without..
