Re: AA36801 Westland Lysander Mk.II (France 1940)

In all honesty, dont' they (Corgi Lysanders) seem a tad expensive, when compared to something like a Corgi Wellington, which is twice the size (& in metal content) which can be had for the same money ???? (£ 35 on the 'Bay).

What do the rest of you guy's think ????

It's not only the Lysanders, I'll be buying a lot less die-cast in future as the price increases are going above what I'm prepared to pay as a 'non-professional' collector (bordering on the serious though ).

I suspect Corgi and other manufacturers like Witty and Franklin Mint are going to see a gradual drop off in future sales as I suspect I'm not alone in my opinion (or limited resources for that matter).

I was talking to Mhackl about this the other day and I was surprised to hear that sales have actually risen after the price increase!!! Many of the higher priced releases (esp. the Connesuer line (sp?) have SOLD OUT per Corgi before they have even been produced..
I guess it remains to be seen if this will also apply to Corgi's "average" releases or if they will be deeply discounted to sell...

Fileas, I realize we are talking Lysanders here. I see Sunderlands are on your mind. As a kid I used to see them regularly. Taxiing for takeoff or landing on the Belfast Lough, inland from the Irish Sea. It was quite a sight to see. I Had an overview of the lough from a park that was close to were I lived. I saw fighter planes as well, only I was too young to identify them at the time. Seeing a Sunderland, you never forget how it looks. Hope you can find a place somewhere, sometime, so you can witness a beautiful plane in flight.

Good for Corgi. This is exactly what they want.

I posted this on the UK forum and I think it applies here as well..

Even though the Corgi 109E has "earned it's crust for the Dawg's bean counters", you can't expect Corgi to lower prices of a plane when the cost of materials and manufacturing have drastically increased over the last few years.. It was not surprising to me that the cost of Corgi's releases have gone up since they have been under-valued for such a long time..
Even though I don't like the idea of cost increases, they are a necessary evil.. And in the end, I will be buying fewer diecast, but it will make me appreciate the ones I have..

Agree 100%.

But even though everyone seems to be buying less, it's great to hear that they are selling out of some very expensive releases. No stock on shelves for extended periods = more profit to the little furry one.

Which means they can stay in business & produce those delicious Halifaxes that I want so badly.

A Short Stirling would be (die-cast) Nirvana, If it could be built to the same high standard as the Lancaster, Catalina & Swordfish

Re: AA36801 Westland Lysander Mk.II (France 1940)

I thinkthat all of us will be purchasing fewer diecast in the next couple of years, at least from Corgi. However, I doubt that we are Corgi's ultimate target. Corgi knows we are going to purchase their birds no matter, it the "average" consumer who are Corgi's ultimate target. Lots more of them on the world than there are folks on this forum.

Re: AA36801 Westland Lysander Mk.II (France 1940)

Like only Corgi can do, they've made an ugly plane into a thing of beauty. I love these models, and it's one I had zero interest in before seeing the pre-pros.

I was just thinking the same thing this weekend as I was looking over a Wellington that a friend of mine offered to sell to me (AA34803). I actually never considered one of these, as I find the aircraft darned SO ugly in real-life, but looking at the detail that Corgi put into this, I was VERY impressed. I may have to buy it after all! I've had no previous interest in this Lysander either, but it sounds like the Lysander is turning out to be another of these 'detail' gems. The Special Ops one is most certainly on my list. Boy, it would be great if you could remember the name of that book! (Maybe it is found in the Book section at RAF Hendon online shopping site?)

Beware, these are fragile!
Don't handle by the wings, hold the fuselage only. The wing floats and is highly dependant upon the struts to hold it on.

Thanx for the 'heads-up'!
