Re: US36603 Lockheed P-38J Lightning "Scat II"

Has anyone had any issues with it slipping off the back of the stand??

I see that they've made the front landing gear out of metal to give it a bit of extra weight in the nose with the gear down.

The stand holds the plane in place so it shouldn't "slip" off the stand.. The plane actually snaps into the holder..

From the pictures of this bird, it looks awesome. Also, Harry's enthusiam for a model, in the past, has been reserved for those that truely deserve them, and his big thumbs up is a pretty good sign.

Does this stand up to their Gladiator, or Catalina? Thanks

I am very enthusiastic about Corgi's recent releases (Catalina, Swordfish, P-38 to name a few) just because I do feel that Corgi has "stepped up the bar" and produced some superior products.. Now this doesn't apply to all Corgi's releases, but it does apply to the majority.. My opinion on the Gladiator is mixed, but I think they were "on the way" when they produced the Glad, so it had some teething problems..

Thanks - I see what you mean about snapping it in the stand. That's a pretty tight fit and needed a fair bit of force to get it in

Add to that list the Lysander. Arriving with my p-38 was the 6 Sqd Palestine Lysander, and it is also a very impressive piece of metal. Corgi slip up on occassion, but the last few releases are really very good :-))

Agreed.. The Lysander is a fine piece, and the only reason I am holding off is to snag the Special Ops Black one..

My sentiments exactly. While a very nice model I am not interested in mulitple Lysanders. The Spec Ops will be the representative Lysander in my collection.

Re: US36603 Lockheed P-38J Lightning "Scat II"

Just got the Scat.

Did anyone see that everything aft of the engines is plastic? The whole boom and tail...

Overall, it's a fine piece but I had to take the Doc Obrien's to the super chargers.

A little rusty brown and white and they seem a lot better. Water clean up so I can take it off in a few minutes with no trace.

Yes I did. A lot like the Catalina in that respect. I personally have no problems with that and the detailing is great.

I think it would have been very difficult to build the tail assemblies in metal and be able to keep the center of gravaty from permanantly putting it on it's tail. As it is they have had to make the nose gear out of metal to give the nose extra weight when displayed "on the ground"

Re: US36603 Lockheed P-38J Lightning "Scat II"

I'm with Timbo on this one. Corgi is going to be doing more plastic in the tails with these birds to keep them from flipping over backwards. They don't have the advantage of two big and heavy engine blocks moving the center of gravity up for them.
