Re: US33821 Republic P-47D-25 Thunderbolt "Maggie"

Just a shot in the dark here but it could be a recognition thing. The ones on the bottom in the pic that Celtic posted look very large, and as the P-47's and Fw 109's were confused quite often that could explain it.

The Larger additional insignia was added ONLY to the undersides of the plane and as Kabel stated above, so trigger-happy AA gunners wouldn't blow them out of the sky.. But that was on the undersides only.. The question here is whether the P-47 should have the double insignia on the top-side also??

Hey, hworth18 any chance you would have a reference to this plane like the one you have on 357th FG in the other thread ?

I have been researching this plane and I have found many pics of other planes in the same FG, but no pics of the upper wing surfaces and none of this plane.. It may take someone with a good reference book on Thunderbolts to answer this one..

I came across this video on google video. It show the bars and stars on both sides of the bottom of the wings and only single on top....also it's a great video showing the P-47 in action with sound..

Re: US33821 Republic P-47D-25 Thunderbolt "Maggie"

So what's the final verdict on this one? Did Corgi go overboard with national insignia or is the scheme correct? My limited research has come up with P-47 pictures from this squadron with only one insignia on top. If its an error, its a real shame. This is one I'd really like to own but I may have to pass if Corgi made this glaring an mistake.
