Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

Maybe you got a Friday (at)5:00 plane??? Unfortunately, QC issues are going to be present regardless of the control measures when these are assembled by assembly line workers that don't care about quality, just quantity.. I would recommend returning it to the dealer and getting another one..

I hope so. I wonder if this is the sort of project that they put the trainee's on?

Exactly what I've done. Gave the dealer a ring and they were outstanding. Put a new plane in the post yesterday with a return shipping label for sending the old one back - Awsome customer service.

Now Harry I have a question for you.

Harry - your the expert on the colors. I was comparing this to the Gemini Galand "F". Now these should both be from around the same time period, but the color interpretations are very different, both on the top and the bottom. Did the Gremans change the color schemes between the E + F, or is this just the different companies different interpretations of the same schemes?

I thought the colors close.. I do know Gallands 109E had the darker tones further down the fuselage.. Here are a few pics of a bulit model (not mine) that illustrates this a little better..
Hope this helps...

Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

Very nice.

So should the colors on the "F" look similar to this, or did they change the camo scheme? The Gemini top wings are a lot darker grey, and the underside a lot lighter.

Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

This Galland looks very nice, but I already have the Gemini Me109 F Galland, very similar scheme, so, as room and money are not limitless, I think I'll stick to plan and pass on this one...

Cool Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

Nice pics. In terms of the Corgi one I've managed to confirm my order. Some sites in the UK are already sold out! How's it doing stateside?

I am very pleased with this one, nice packaging & a decent finish on my sample, a reasonable price too at under £18.

Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

With prices delivered from $35+ this will be the first Corgi Messerschmitt not to be part of my collection, save the CHC special which I bought the Legends version of and saved $80+. $40 is just too much for me when I can get a Gemini for $10 less at least and a Dragon for half. Plus, the scheme is not near as attractive as the original, very hohum! How many Gallands does a guy need?

Thumbs up Re: US32110 Messerchmitt BF 109E Adolf Galland

I just received this one in the mail today. I had to decide between Gemini's F and the Corgi E, and I'm quite happy with my decision. Corgi's new packaging is quite nice as well. If you are new to the hobby this would be a nice item to have in the collection.

Scorecard:
Molding: 6.5 out of 10
Fairly accurate (still no telescope, which probably won't happen in 1/72 anyways), but this molding is getting a bit long in the tooth. This shows the most when trying to install the landing gear in the down position, which can be a pain. Gemini's 109F is seven years of engineering and design better, but if you want an Emil version 109 this is still a good way to go. Corgi standard pilot, which isn't great, but is better than the one in the Gemini Galland.

Livery: 8 out of 10
Classic Luftwaffe yellow nosed Battle of Britain style. Plus it has a Swazi and Mickey Mouse. There's probably something to that... All the markings are right, and in the right place. Dragon still holds the crown for best detailing though, Corgi doesn't come close to having all the placards and stuff.

Aesthetics: 8 out of 10
It may not be the best Messerschmitt out there, but this is still one nice model. Remarks have been made about the darkness of the paint job, but I don't believe it really detracts from the overall presentation too much.

Packaging: 4 out of 5
New style! Model particular slip sleeve over generic Corgi box. I quite like the design, it's a step forward for Corgi. It's very easy to remove and replace the model from the packaging, and the whole deal has an elegant quality to it that pretty much all the other players in the diecast market could take note of. The "limited edition" numbered certificate also has the model write-up on it, as well as pics of forthcoming product. They could do better with their approach to making things LE, but I guess it's not horrible.

Pricing/Value: 3 out of 5
$35 to $40 for this model isn't a terrible price, but it's not exactly what you would call a bargain either. Competition for dollars is tight at the moment, and with a lesser effort Corgi may have lost out big time.

Total: 29.5 out of 40
If you were in high school that would be a C. If you were a movie reviewer it would be three stars out of four (or 3 and a half out of five). Since this is less like a test and more like a review, 3 stars out of four it is.
