Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Just got my 1st Corgi 1/72 plane - Swordfish, Sink the Bismarck. It appears that you cannot place it on the display stand if you attach the torpedo. Anybody had that problem? But this is one beautiful model. Wow!

You can if you rotate the stand to the side..

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Thanks. I tried several positions. Worried about breaking off the "step up." I'm sure I'm not turning my head in just the correct angle. But, to say it once again, "this is one beautiful model!."

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

If you place the stand at roughly 90 degrees to the model you can get the torp to fit. On my model it does not snap into place that securely on the rear pin, just fits in enough. And you are definitely right it is a beautiful bird.

Yeah, it is a realy cool piece.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Copland, tried it at an angle. Saw the position of the 'step up', Thought better of it. It's an accident waiting to happen. Maybe Corgi could modify an extension to accommodate full display of this model.

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Swoop is right. I almost turned the model in the wrong direction which would have snapped off the step up. So, I'm going to display it off the stand. This is my first Corgi 1/72 plane. I have 5 Dragons and 1 IXO, and 1 Hobby Master. I must say that I am very impressed. At least from my inital observation both Dragon, HM and Corgi make excellent models. The IXO is also pretty nice, but Corgi, HM and Dragon seem a "cut above." Only my opinion, since I am new to planes. I paid $40.00, $33.00 for the plane and $7.00 for shipping. That is a little steep, but, once in a while I will spend the money, if the model is very appealing. I really like this model, and am looking at other Swordfish.

Yeah Corgi could have done a bit more work on the stands. If you look at all the trouble they went to for the P-38s, it makes you wonder why they couldn't do it for their other models.
Hey Copland, since you're just starting your plane collection, do yourself a favor and pick up the Gemini Aces P-51B "Ding Hao!", I guarantee you'll be impressed!

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

I broke the bank and bought all 4 of them. they are just perfect. I only display the floatplane on its stand, too risky with the step to use the stand on the others. Copland, if you are just starting your collection it is a good idea to decide now what exactly it is that you want to collect. I have a complete muddle of aircraft because I just bought anything I liked. Trouble is that I like them all. A themed collection is a better way forward and cheaper on the wallet. There you are,its easy to give advice to others but impossible to take your own!!!!

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Welcome Copland. Jim is right about themes. When I started collecting everything was a bit hit and miss until I discovered themes! I have Battle of Britain, Russian Front, Pacific, North Africa, post war American and British airpower etc. But you must be careful because it is so easy (and expensive) to justify filling in gaps in themes! 17 full shelves of THEMES!!

The guys on the forum have good advice and savvy and won't steer you wrong.
