Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Just sit back and imagine the boss saying climb into that old biplane and although the weather is dreadfull I want you to attack a modern state of art German battleship. Drive home your attack and sink the blighter . It is hard to believe it took place. Would you do it? I am sure I wouldnt, yet time and again those brave men flew the old Stringbags into action. It just amazes me .
Congrats! A great choice! The best 2006 Corgi I reckon!
I had to rotate the plane on the stand so that it fits with the torpedo on, without it it just wouldn't be the same. Hi Bismarck, tuuut, tuuut, tuuut, kabouummm, there goes your engine ...

God Bless America.

I have but one theme and I adhere to it religiously... I only collect aircraft that have wings.

That has just saved me a ton of money and space, let me tell ya....

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Regretfully, I've stayed away from the rotor-heads too; they take up too much space. They are a very interesting mode of transportation and have some excellent markings. I think my favourite is the USMC's "Frog"; there's just something magic about seeing one from head-on when its in the hover in a nose high attitude.

The RAF's Rescue yellow Bristol Sycamores were another enjoyable "spot" in the early days, later replaced by S-55s in a similar scheme. Somwhere, I have a b/w photo of one hovering over a 92 Sqdn Sabre which had made an emergency landing at the old Carnaby airstrip in East Yorkshire. Carnaby was one of the FIDO-equipped airfields in WW2 and a very impressive sight when the fuel pipes were ablaze to disperse the fog. You could feel the heat three miles away.

I saw the first flights of the Blackburn GAL 60, (prototype of the Beverley) and the HP-88 (a Supermarine Attacker with a scaled down Victor wing which was built by Blackburns to prove the crescent wing concept) take place at Carnaby. Today, its an industrial site.
