Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

The guys on the forum have good advice and savvy and won't steer you wrong.

Good point, check with the boys if you are unsure about a model, they are always willing to advise and steer you clear of some of the rubbish. just ask Skunky about Corgi Mustangs.

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Thanks guys. I'll check out the Gemini plane. When you say "pick out a theme," do you mean certain battles, or theaters of war? I've already narrowed it down to WWII! Too wide huh? Give me some ideas.

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

I must be lucky as I'm able to display my Bismarck Swordfish with the torpedo quite easily with the stand in a normal position. It fits with the torpedo snug in both post holes. Once I can figure out my pop up photo problem with this site, I'll post a pic.

As for a theme, you'll try to stick to one, but you'll fail, as there will always be something else out there that will catch your eye. I wanted to stick to WWII German Corgi 1:72. That went out the window after about 6 months of collecting. I have remained pretty true to Corgi and WWII, but there have been new pieces and scales, (Hobbymaster, Gemini, Carousel), that have found their way into my collection. Hence the need for new display cases, and more shelves for the Detolfs.

Try to stick to a budget Copland, and you'll be just fine. Then Corgi will release all those pieces they were supposed to put out last year, (Typhoon's etc.) and that will go for a dive as well.

Ah, just have fun with it.

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Welcome Copland. Don't listen to my oppo, Jim, its near impossible to stick with a theme. I started with RAF jets, moved into WW2 RAF fighters, got hooked on P-51s and P-47s, then came P-40s and so it went, B-17, B-24, Lancaster etcI have the first four Stringbags, the black one and float plane are on a stand, the Bismark has wings folded and the silver one is on the deck with wings spread, so I avoided the torpedo/stand interface problem.

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

The interesting thing about the planes is getting a good perspective on their comparative sizes. The Zero is much smaller than the P-47 and Hellcat, etc. If you don't see these in a side by sid comarison, you tend to think that they were all basically the same size. Of course, some were, but not all. Anyway, the planes are a welcomed addition to my "vast" armor collection.

WWII is my theme and it suits me just fine....

Oh Jim, how can you be so unfaithful? 1/48 scale indeed; whatever next?

Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

I know its terrible. Those B52 1/44s look good. I follow the the threads about AFV and some of those look very tempting as well. Plus I have all the 1/32 Corgi Me109s, where will it all end,? Is there an end? Do I want it to end? We are not the only ones with this problem it seems. My friend is into photography and he is forever upgrading his kit. If I had the money he spends on his hobby I could buy every diecast I wanted.

Thumbs up Re: Corgi Swordfish - Sink the Bismarck

Just got my 1st Corgi 1/72 plane - Swordfish, Sink the Bismarck. It appears that you cannot place it on the display stand if you attach the torpedo. Anybody had that problem? But this is one beautiful model. Wow!

Congrats! A great choice! The best 2006 Corgi I reckon!
I had to rotate the plane on the stand so that it fits with the torpedo on, without it it just wouldn't be the same. Hi Bismarck, tuuut, tuuut, tuuut, kabouummm, there goes your engine ...
