Thumbs up F-4C Phantom

Col. Olds & 1st Lt. Clifton arrived in their absolutely beautiful F-4C. If there are any glaring faults in this issue I haven't fond them yet. This birds is definitely going to be wheels up, since it looks airborne even when packaged it its box. First the Gladiator, then the Swordfish and now the Phantom. A Corgi Hat Trick in my estimation.

Re: F-4C Phantom

Saw it in my local store today. I was not impressed. Looks like the crew compartment has been bathed in mud!!!

In my opinion, the woodbridge phantom is much nicer and is still readily available.

Re: F-4C Phantom

I like mine but agree with Mustangdriver's assertion that Corgi should have done the Scat Phantom in the USAF museum for color reasons. Aside from that my only other beef is the color of the pilot's helmets, they do look rather muddy. Still, she's a good rendition of a Vietnam Era USAF F-4. I already have Annette, passed on the Woodbridge Phantom, and am happy with my Olds, which along with his P-38 and P-51 will make a great collection dedicated to a great aviator.

Hi Stalag - It's a Woodbridge based F.4 Phantom. (Hence WR tailcodes).

Woodbridge (is) was a Suffolk Airbase - built in W.W.II as an emergency landing ground (extended) for returning battle-damaged U.S.A.A.F. B.17's, B.24's & likewise R.A.F. Halifaxes, Lancasters & Stirlings etc.

It was a twin base, known as Bentwaters/Woodbridge & was used exclusively post-war by the U.S.A.F.

Resident F.101's were replaced by the F.4's (C's & D's) which were replaced in turn (in 1980) by A.10's & a resident 'Aggressor' unit, equipped with (Russian-like painted !) U.S.A.F. F.16's (sorry, off the top of my head, don't remember the unit No).

Sadly, it all came to an abrupt end in 1993, as the base closed, along with 4 - 5 others in East-Anglia.

I'll always have fond memories of the place, as my 1st sighting of an F.101 Voodoo taking off above our heads, back there, in Aug '78, along with thousands of noisy sightings of (said) F.4's in Vietnam Camo' - & later, the (quiet) A.10's - White, then 'Lizard Greens/Euro' 1' camouflage, before being (finally) painted in (dull) light-Grey overall.
Also the 1st place I saw the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds display team.
One of my regularly visited & sadly missed local bases, now used (& featured on T.V. as a Dog-Training site.

OK, oter than the color of the helmets, manufactured by Kraft, I still contend that this is a beautifully done F-4C. Camo is right, seams are tight, scoring just right depth - so wha't wrong withis bird? For a while there I thought I was tuned into our Brit cousins and would soon begin to read heated discussions about the depth of the paint used on this issue v. other Corgi Phantoms, e.g., Annette.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Re: F-4C Phantom

Other than them choosing a different Old's aircraft than I would of, I think it looks great.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
