Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

It's interesting that the Corgi pre-production photos on Tricatus show the droop snoop P-38 with bombs. This detail somehow got lost in production.

Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

. No other fighter had this ability at this stage in the war.

IMHO the Mossie was by far superior and more verstile than that, but then being British I'm not at all biased

Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

Why does Corgi go through all the trouble to produce a mostly great model and then drop the ball on a major and seemingly obvious feature?

A P-38 bomber without bombs

The Dick Bong P-38 with bombs

The John Glenn F-86F that's really and F-86A

Etc...

I just don't get it. Don't they have somebody that checks out these details? Heck, I'll volunteer!

Will Corgi ever do one of these?

That P-38 Float plane was only on the drawing board during WWII and was never put into production.

Thumbs down Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

I'm pondering that is the fact that thew P-38 could carry almost the same bomb load as a B-17 show how awsome the P-38 is or realy how pathetic the B-17 realy was???

What would happen if they lost the lead plane before the bomb run occured?

Congrtulations, Timbo, your British superior attitude finally broke through the "No Fools Need Apply" rule on this site. Pathetic? Just how many RAF bomber crews were lost on daylight raids over Europe? Lancs, Wellies - KISS my All American. 28000 Yanks died in the 8th Air Force alone Pathetic-you're one pathetic example of Tea Time for us while the Yanks get killed to save your sorry a*ses.

Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

Steady old boy, I visit the American Airforce Memorial Hanger at Duxford every year and I know and understand the great losses inflicted on those brave airmen. I do appreciate what they did and will never forget their sacrifice. I read a book called Target Berlin and it left me in tears at the terrible events those young flyers had to go through. But I have often wondered why the powers that be never made more aircraft like the Mossie and others that carried similar payloads to the Fortress. After all these aircraft had a crew of two so if you lost one then the death rate was so much lower. Also the Mossie was quick enough to get out of trouble if needed. Its in no way a criticism just an observation. Maybe we didnt have the capacity at the time to tool up to make more? I think this is what the previous post by Timbo was trying to say. Please do not think that we in Britain do not appreciate what you did for us because we do and we dont forget.

Re: P-38-J "Drop Snoot-Eze Does It "1:72 is out

Just another point stalag, You asked how many Lancs Wellies Etc were lost in daylight over Europe. I do not have the figures but it runs into hundreds.I am sure some of the members on the hanger will be able to come up with more accurate numbers but believe me we Brits were all over Europe in daylight many many times and took very high losses. We along with many other nations all fought together and did our bit in the skies over Europe in both day and nightime. The losses taken by both the day and night aircrews were terrible indeed. God Bless them all.
