BAE Hawk T.1A and SEPECAT Jaguar

I am planning to purchase these two below and would like to hear from those who already have them? Just your random thoughts (subjective/objective) you'd like to share about these jets?

Thank you.

(AA36003) British Aerospace Hawk T.1A, RAF Valley 2005
(AA35403) SEPECAT Jaguar GR.3, RAF Coltishall

Re: BAE Hawk T.1A and SEPECAT Jaguar

The Hawk is the best one done so far,the black covers the join lines quite well if you want a Hawk IMHO this is the best one.The Jaguar is something else ,the tail markings are a work of art ,the mould is good but the airframe colour is s**t ,the RAF scheme for Jags is Dark Camouflage Grey with Dark Sea Grey top surfaces, the grey used on this model and the 41Sqn one is not even close to either of the greys. Corgi have been informed of this on numerous occasions and refuse to accept it,unless you intend to repaint the airframe the best place for this Jag and the 41 Sqn one is in the nearest rubbish tip.

Re: BAE Hawk T.1A and SEPECAT Jaguar

A few words of agreement - the Hawk looks good in black and, as SniperUK says, the joint lines are "hidden" by the finish. It displays well and I like it.

Again, SniperUK is right about the Jaguar - the grey is wrong, very wrong, but the casting is a good one (though the pilot sits a little low - that doesn't bother me). I have the Jag sitting next to 208 Squadron Buccaneer (AA34105) and 29 Squadron Typhoon (AA36402) and the difference in shades of grey between all three is dramatic. I wouldn't dare say which is right, but the Jag is certainly wrong. Having said that I've learned to accept it and, as the aircraft is a nice shape, I've left it on display - it's one of those "I know it's wrong, but I don't care" models for me ! The tail decoration is very well done. If accuracy is important to you I'd recommend you to avoid it.

There are other Corgi Jaguars - I believe there have been complaints about the colours of the camoflage finish on AA35401, but again, it looks good to me.

I've just obtained the Gulf War Jag (AA35402) which, as with the others, is well finished - the colour of the finish matches the Gulf War Tornado, so it may well be the most accurately finished Jag - even if it isn't, it matches the Tornado so it doesn't stick out like AA35403 does on my shelves. It is currently available at very low prices in the UK; hopefully you can find equally good pricing if it interests you.

Dave

Best Jag if you can get it is the trainer, the colours are right the only fault being two gun ports when the trainer only has one gun ,overall the most accurate of the Jag models.

Re: BAE Hawk T.1A and SEPECAT Jaguar

DaveyJ and sniperUK - thank you both for your insightful remarks!

Sniper, I am also considering the Jag trainer model and possibly ditching the AA35403 Coltishall Jag in place for it. The wrong shades of grey wasn't the deal-breaker for me, it's just that I've always been enamored with tandem-seater jet trainers - part of it being hitching a ride on a T-38 a long time ago!

If Hawks look good in black, would navy be OK? I hope so, because this is the one I'm waiting for...

That would be one of the few Jets that would take a place of honour in my collection. I just can not resist that maple leaf. I collect only WWII planes, and now a growing section of Canadian Jets. I also an not wait for this one.

Oooh, that looks nice.

The comment about being best in black is because the joint line between the upper and lower body part pieces is "hidden" by the dark finish - this joint is very obvious on lighter finishes such as the Red Arrow. I would think a finish such as this one would also do a good job of disguising the joint line.

While I haven't had the model under a magnifier it looks as though there is some slight rounding to the edges of the parts which means the two parts don't butt up as seamlessly as possible, but leave a very visible line. Of all the Corgi jets I have, the Hawks show the lowest production quality - I think they were produced around the time Corgi decided to move production due to quality issues - the quality of the castings, plastic parts, fit and paint finish on my Red Arrow is poor; the black 208 Squadron isn't as bad, but that is a replacement (I've never had to have any replaced before, or after, that one). I've seen the new Goshawk and the paint finish on that was very good - hopefully the production problems are behind them now.
