RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

My Pembroke Dock Catalina arrived on Monday afternoon (AA.36101) after having bid for it & won, at a very reasonable £ 49.

I really was deeply impressed with the quality of it & general standard of

finish, although with two minor gripes......

The cellophane/plastic (wing) covers/bracing/packaging on the upper

polystyrene lid seem to be leaving/or have left a fine film of moisture (or light

oil?) in small patches on the upper wing paintwork - very strange ?

The other was the badly distorted & cracked Antenna/D.F.-Loop, situated on

the upper-wing between the two engines = bent it back into shape, yet to

be glued = unecessary hassle.

Anyone else found either of the two above.........???

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

I got mine about 3 weeks ago Hornchurch and took a closer look at it and didn't notice any oily/moisture markings on mine and the Antenna loop was just fine, think you might have gotten a Friday bird there.

Thanks Kabel, that's what I was wondering.

The moisture marks seem to have (thankfully) dissapeared - although it looks mildly less matt, in some places than others.... (wife reckons it's the cold room/storage area making the difference).

Once the D.F. loop's sorted it'll look O.K.

£ 49 is a good price over here for a new release, when they're generally going for £ 60 - £ 70.

I figured that others on this forum may have had similar minor prob's on either the 'Pembroke' or 'Snafu'......

B.T.W. Kabel, how d'ya rate it quality-wise compared to other earlier releases ???????

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

Well, I got "Snafu", and I love it. I think it is one of Corgi's best molds.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

I agree mustangdriver. When Snafu arrived I was floored. I have a couple of gripes like the white painted exhausts and most of the OA-10A's used the "football" D.F. antenna, but those are just teeny tiny poo poo things. I'm a PBY lover and Corgi has a real winner with this mold. I was going to only get one.......now I will get several

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

I've had my RAF Cat for several weeks now. Fortunately, mine had none of the faults you describe (it's one of the best models in my hanger!). Sorry to hear that yours was less than perfect.

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

I am promising myself I'm only going to have two - the Pembroke Dock has already joined the collection, and Snafu is waiting to be shipped once another pre-order comes into stock.

Damn, it's going to be tough to resist getting more of these - they're quite spectacular on display!

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

Same here. I told myself that all I needed was the Snafu one, and now I have it, and I have the Black Cat one on pre-order.

Re: RAF Pembroke Dock Catalina

I have to agree with Kabelace. Mine came wrapped as you described but it didn't have a single problem.

I think you might have gotten a Friday bird there.

I noticed this on both a Corgi and a Witty piece this week. It wipes clean without staining, but very odd indeed.
