Re: Where did Corgi make the most errors

I'm curious, what mistakes are there on Corgi's JU-88?

And are we only talking about the recently released P-51b here?

I think the main criticism of the JU-88 are the guns sticking out of the cockpit. They are massively over scale and make it look like it's packing 20mm cannons.

I voted for the P51 just based on the "B". I can forgive the "D" because of it's age - the industry and standards have moved on since then, but the "B" is brand new and does not reflect the new higher standards that we have come to expect. (It's also more expensive than the competition).

Re: Where did Corgi make the most errors

Just a simple question, well perhaps not so simple. How do you know the nose it too short? I read the declarative statements, i.e., nose too short, rear fuse too thick, nose to thin, the Malcom hood is the wrong size, and on and on. How do forum members arrive at these model killing conclusions? Do you own the model? Do you have calipers and outside and in side micrometers handy? Amazing what shows up here without a cintilla of proof to back up the comments.
I've ordered the TFM issue and it'll here on Thursday. When it arrives I'll measure it against my other P-51s, both B & D models. Until then I'll just read the posted killing criticisms and wonder.

Look at the comparison shots of the Gemini and the Corgi - They both look completely different and something is definitely a-miss with Corgi's offering. Yes the shots are from slightly different angles, but it is obvious that some of the major dimensions are very different. I cannot comment on the length of the nose being accurate, but my impression is that the cockpit is over large and this is having a fore-shortening effect on the nose. Also the tail shape looks very different

Also take a look at Tri's site. He has some very good pictures up now. I have tried to compare his shots with my Gemini Berlin Express and on first glance (admittedly without a side to side comp) there are some striking differences in the nose area. The scoop under the prop is also looks much bigger than the Gemini release.

Admittedly the big flaw in this is that we are assuming that the Gemini is accurate, but no one has come up with anything to refute this.

Good luck with your purchase and I hope that you can prove us septics wrong, and that the shots we have seen are inaccurate or miss-leading.

Re: Where did Corgi make the most errors

We definately can't blame new management, they have barely had time to get the coffee pot going and there has been quite a large management turn-over.

Jetfan - I disagree here. How much time are you going to give them? They have been in place now for 8 months, and so someone in that team would have had to sign-off that the dog was ready for production. Obviously it was not.

Asking Joe-public to pay for a tooling mistake just so that they can get a return on a miss-guided investment is just wrong. If the concept came from the previous management then it should have been even easier for them to junk it as "just a mistake of the old team, and so not reflected on us". By releasing it they are now involved. If they are serious about quality they should have either delayed or cancelled outright.

Hey Timbo! If he were to prove the septics wrong, would that make him an antiseptic?

Sorry, that joke about septics tanked.

Re: Where did Corgi make the most errors

You guys may think me a dupe....an easy mark. I have 12-----P-51Ds and 1----K model. They range through ETO...MTO and PTO. In the 1:72 range Dragon were the principal rival to Corgi. I wasn't to happy with their fiddly bits......so I opted for Corgi. One thing that tiddles me off is the undercarriage. Mainly because of the fraustation of properly locating it and then hoping it wont collapse when on display. Same applies to the Corsair. I give the minus to the Mustang because I have more of them.
