Sentimental Journey

Okay, so I just got this one and after many members glowing reviews I must say I'm a tad under-whelmed -- the polished finish has lots of... sludge on it (white resin like smears)... and what's up with the unpainted control surfaces. I thought it was a mistake at first as they look like unpainted plastic? Anyone know why they look like this...

Though, she does look pretty sweet from afar... nice and shiny. Maybe I do like it afterall...

Re: Sentimental Journey

B-17 control surfaces are fabric, and then painted silver in a dope-not paint. Therefore they would not be glossy like the rest of the aircraft.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Sentimental Journey

Okay, but they're more gray than silver -- looks strange, but if it's right, it's right

Mine is perfectly made and has a uniform polished matte metal finish. I don't think that there should be any "white resin like smears" on it.

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: Sentimental Journey

Yeah, I'm probably describing it pretty poorly... it's not quite a tarnish effect, just looks like it didn't get "buffed" before leaving the showroom... I'll try to take some pics to show what I'm talking about, not sure if it will show up though.

Re: Sentimental Journey

This sort of sound like the same thing Corgi did to the 1/32 BBD P-51D Mustang with their ailerons on the wings.

Re: Sentimental Journey

Yeah the control surfaces are plastic, and more of a gray, but on the '17, and I think SJ, they are a gray or flat silver.

Re: Sentimental Journey

I had the same white smears on mine. I wasn't impressed by it either as it certainly looks like a quality control issue. I then bought one from Harry and it is fine. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it doesn't look too appealing, that's for sure.

May the farts be with you, and not me.
