| I just got Memphis Belle, now a question I gave the Mrs. the "puppy dog eyes" and the "Its a rare one" speach, and well I got Memphis Belle off of E-bay today. So the question is, which fighter is the more accurate escort? Thunderbolts or Mustangs? 909 and Yankee Doodle took up some space and I had to bump the Dragon P-51Ds down with those two. I'll have room on the GA Mustang shelf, and just barely enough on my Thunderbolt shelf. Strawberry Bitch and Sleepy Time Gal have my Dragon North African Wildcat, Spitfire, Corgi P-40 and GA US Spitfire as escorts. - Shawn | |||||||||||||

| Re: I just got Memphis Belle, now a question Actually no escort is accurate. They did it with no fighter escort in the ol' days. At the end of the documentary, I believe that Spitfires are seen peeling off as the Belle flies over head. I can't wait until she is out of the restoration shop, and on display. | |||||||||||||

| Re: I just got Memphis Belle, now a question I reckon it would be the P-47. Don't think the Mustang was operating yet. Wikipedia says the B/C's arrived in England in August/October respectively 1943. But I would agree escort would be split by P-47's and spitfires. I'm sure it didn't take the 7 months to realize the bombers were getting creamed by themselves | |||||||||||||
