snafu catalina

I picked up a corgi catalina, snafu snatcher, and unlike the photo it has no front gunner or underwing bombs but is still a beauty.

As an ERS OA-10 it shouldn't have either a front gunner or bombs. Here are some photos:

I'm not sure what SNAFU refers to in this particular case but I've always thought it refers to the military slang expression of Situation Normal All ****** Up

(The original denotation of the word represented by asterisks (*) was Fouled although it has given way to a more crude popular expression that would be inappropriate to repeat here .)

Re: snafu catalina

Here is OA-10 Catalina "Snafu Snatchers" at eh National Museum of the USAF. Tis pic was taken outside before she was moved inside. She withou t a doubt has the nose turret. The OA-10 was just the USAAF deignation for the PBY-5A.

True, but many of the 5A's didn't have guns in the nose turret.. I think that is the question isn't it??

Re: snafu catalina

Based on the photos I have seen it is generally sans gunner. I have found a few which are exceptions but the majority are depicted in Corgi's model.

I ordered mine today and eagerly await its arrival.

Re: snafu catalina

I am looking forward to it as well. I am pretty sure she has a gun in that turret though. I will have to check it out. Also snafu snatchers was field mdified to carry an extra thirty in the rear lower hatch.
