| Corgi Nose Art "Miss Plainfield" P-47D Apologies if this topic has been addressed already, but I've recently purchased Corgi's US33816 1:72 P-47D in the Nose Art series, "Miss Plainfield." Upon opening the box it became apparent that the photo on the box did not match the model inside. The box art looked like a later-production P-47D with the bubble canopy, while the model was an earlier-production P-47D with the older, non-bubble canopy. What's up with that? Which is correct? Otherwise, it's a great little model, with some pretty nose art. Thanks! Ted | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Nose Art "Miss Plainfield" P-47D
From what I know of the plane and its markings, the Razorback P-47 inside is the correct model for Miss Plainfield. You can tell this by looking at the national insignia, which for Miss Plainfield is the star and bars with the red surround. This insignia was introduced in mid 1943 and only was applied for a few months before being replaced by the better known blue and white star and bars. As for model type, the time period would be more appropriate for a P-47C, which is a razorback. Therefore the box art is wrong. I've noticed Corgi Box art showing different types a couple times, the best known other example is the Flying Mule Gentile Spit, which shows what appears to be a Spit XVI with a bubble canopy, rather than his Spit V. This model is a fine example of a Razorback Thunderbolt, I have Dragon's P-47D Saucy Suzy as well, and they make a nice First and Last Combo, showcasing the development of the Thunderbolt. An added bonus for me is the fact that Saucy Suzy is in the markings of the 513 Fighter Squadron, which is the unit my Uncle William B. Cobb flew for in late 44, during which he was credited with 3 Victories in one day. Skysurfer808 | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Nose Art "Miss Plainfield" P-47D Thanks, skysurfer! I thought that was the case, but as a fairly new collector, thought I'd check in with the experts to confirm. Good point about the national insignia. One wonders what model they used for the photograph for the box art. Perhaps a pre-production version that was ditched when they realized it should be a Razorback? Was it photoshopped incorrectly? Who knows. Thanks, Ted | |||||||||||||

| Re: Corgi Nose Art "Miss Plainfield" P-47D Ted ....Here is a real picture of this P-47D. The Corgi diecast is correct. I also have his painting of a P-51B Mustangs called "On a wing and a prayer-The flying Greek Steve Pisanos" where he is sitting outside his wing and trying to belly land his Mustang in a field. Nice find Starman! I had the pleasure in speaking to Mr. Pisanos a few years back and he sent me an 8x10 wartime photo personalized to me, so now I have to get this plane to go with the photo. | ||||||||||||||
