Question Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I was wondering how many of you are planning to buy the new Halifax scheduled for 2007 - some are already speculating that it may eventually become as rare and sought after as the Lancaster range

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I already have 37201 on preorder. They are cool looking and will go nice with my Lanc(if I ever get one).

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

Gotta say that AA 37203 is one seriously sexy looking beast.

I love the deleted/faired over nose turret - a common feature on many Merlin engined Halifaxes, as is the faired over Mid-Upper position, (so don't you guys who are unfamiliar with the H.P.57 go fretting, it's quite normal).

The ONLY thing that I would call into question (given mhackl pix, in Post No 7 - Corgi 2007 Releases; Battle For The Desert......& the explanatory notes on the AMAZING combat involving this a/c on Sept 17th 1943 -

where it was attacked by 8 x Ju88's over the Bay of Biscay, whilst towing a Horsa glider....IS....possibly the scheme it wore on that particular day ?

I don't know how many other forum members are aware of this, BUT - ACTUAL COMBAT PHOTO'S OF THIS ONE-SIDED DOGFIGHT EXSIST !!!!

They show F/O Norman's Halifax under attack; ONE of the series of photograph's shows the Halifax taking evasive action under the nose of a (currently) FIRING Ju88, that is diving down towards the Sea - above the Halifax, with the tracers CLEARLY streaking towards the underdog.

There are at least 5 pix in all - ALL taken from one of the attacking Ju88's from the group (I.I.R.C. - KG 40, the unit involved).

They were published in 'Flypast' magazine, a few years back (I believe in the Late-1990's) & certainly caused a stir (they certainly K.O.'d me !!!!).
Yes, I do still have the mag' somewhere; probably in Parent's loft amongst a thousand others !!!!!!

I guess that was the deciding X-factor, that made Corgi choose this machine (NICE choice; 1 v 10, AND it shot 1xJu88 down/drove the rest off - impressive).

I DON'T DOUBT THAT SHE WAS PAINTED IN THE DESERT SCHEME a little later-on; BUT - whether she was marked in regular Bomber colours/Green/Earth/Black on Sept 17th 1943 - or marked up in Desert colours that would stand-out like a sore-thumb over the Atlantic WHO KNOWS ? (who cares, you might say, but I'd be interested to know !)

Corgi - I salute you on your choice - I'll buy TWO of this beast - I love it that much !!!!!!!!!!!

The next Lanc? Unlikely. Maybe if you have 10 years to wait...

Don't underestimate the allure of the Halifax Canucklehead ... it was a pretty good aircraft for its time .

Luftwaffe pilots had great respect for it as a foe and thought that it was more robust than the 'sexy' Lancaster (albeit less manoeuvrable).

Not to mention it made the B-24 feel not quite so ugly....

I have no doubts as to the well documented abilities of the Halifax.

I do, however, have doubts as to Corgi's abilities to produce and market effectively a model as well loved and received as the Lancaster. Part of the reason the Corgi Lancaster is so hard to find is because it was so well rendered, unlike the B-24 and in most cases, the B-17. I hope they prove me wrong, but at the prices Corgi is asking I don't believe they will disappear all that quickly.

I have AA37201 & AA37202 on pre-order as well.

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

01 and 03 definitely, and possibly 02 at the right price, but I have it in 1/144 from Diverse Images already. "Friday The 13th".. absolutely no doubt (even on their worst day Corgi wouldn't miss doing this), and I hope Corgi does other Hally's with appealing nose art. Obviously I hope NA337, the restored Halifax in Canada, is done as I've followed that project very closely over the years, and if the RCAF Museum got directly involved it could be a great fund raiser for them (as the Corgi 419 Sqn Lanc should have been for the Canadian Warplane Heritage).

Also hope to see a Coastal Command GR Mk.V. and D-Day striped A Mk.V.

I don't know if the Hally will be the next Lancaster, but there will be more variety with the distinctly different variants and roles the aircraft fulfilled (many of them roles the Lanc could not do as well).
