Cool Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I quite like 37202. I just think the radials on the later versions along with the cleaner lines look better. Bit under-gunner up front though? What's the Merlin frenzy?

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I’m a Hercules man. A pair of Bristols on each wing. Mmmmmmmmmmm

Also hope to see a Coastal Command GR Mk.V. and D-Day striped A Mk.V.

yes, me too, though whether I’d end up buying either is another matter
It’s the only Coastal 4-motor I’d buy as my granddad copped it in a Liberator

Not to mention it made the B-24 feel not quite so butt-ugly....

how dare you sir!

Me too ZS, the BIII and later Bristol engined models did make the Hally look much leaner and meaner, which it was, though it never lost the stigma of being overweight and underpowered gained in the early Merlin variants. Still, the uglier early model grows on you... well, it did on me anyway...

Yes, it was realized early on that on night ops a front turret was unnecessary extra weight as the Luftwaffe almost never used the head-on attack they practiced in daylight. It should have been replaced with a belly/ventral turret as standard though. Very few Halifaxes, even fewer Lancasters, and if I recall correctly, no Stirlings had them.

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I'll definitely be getting 37203. I love the desert camo., plus it's different than the brown/green camo. on my "Dambuster" Lanc and my SEAC Wellington. Also, I just read the story of this plane and it's encounter in the book "War In The Air - The World War Two Aviation Paintings of Mark Postlewhaite". Awesome story, but unfortunately, he doesn't give a description of the camo. scheme on the Halifax.

I'm also digging the Merlin Engines. Wicked beastly, matie ...

Hornchurch : Thanks for the info. about the deleted turrets. That was my only misgiving about getting this model, as opposed to the other two. I knew they would have them probably removed for lightening the load for towing, but the other reasons you gave turned the tide for me. I'm definitely getting the old '03 now.

Oooh, look ... post #69 ... giggle, smirk, giggle, hehe ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge, knowwhatimean ...

Tempted by 01 & 02. Would have to see them up close before parting with cash.

Cool Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

Well they all are so similar I will probably go for the lowest production model. I will likely only get one, as it is so similar in appearance to the Lancaster I see no reason to have more than one. I guess we will see if Corgi does a more colorful/different scheme such as, Coastal Command or Air-Sea rescue.

Great insights no4mkit! Thanks.

Similar to a Lanc JC? Never! I reckon get one now if the quality is up to scratch. We'll only see what's next for 2008 nearly a year from now. Nasty thought.

Re: Halifax (the next 'Lancaster'?)

I love the shape of the 37201 motors.
I like this plane much more than any lancaster!

I have to agree 100%. This aircraft is very elegant. I too have this version on pre-order. (Some day???)
