Smile Re: FM exclusive P-51B has arrived..

With a little bit of luck, mine will be here next week and I'm looking forward to its arrival. I'll hold my criticisms until then. However, I'm ALWAYS amazed, or as Casey Stengel would say "it's truly amazin" at the way members of this foirum jump on a model based on photographs alone. Camera lens' often foreshorten objects, and with ultra-sharp digital cameras, 5 mgs and up, details are often exagerated.

The die cast aircraft business would soon be in Chapter 11 if some guys here and in 'ol Blighty" were in charge. You'd be forever throwing out the good in search of the Holoy Grain, the perfect die cast mold, any scale, for $19.95.

Re: FM exclusive P-51B has arrived..

I love invasion stripes... but... that nose does look too short, the canopy too big (?) and where's the antenna?

GA has perhaps spoiled me...

Malcolm Hood version won't have an antenna (or atleast one you can see at this scale)

Hmmmm... okay.. then give me one that's slightly out of scale that I can see, I suppose, would be my preference. Wait and see on this one I think.. but thanks for the edification, Harry

If this is true, then how'd I end up with so many models?

I think one of the best things about this place is just to chit-chat about new models, including initial impressions ... and with a closet full of Speccast and more than a few IXOs... I don't think you can call me a perfectionist.

Things would sure be boring around here if all we ever said was "That looks great!" Least for me...

All that said, I don't think I'll ever be fan of the pooch's Mustang efforts -- I do lilke this scheme, so if no one else does it... I'll probably bite.

I hope someone who gets this model will put it next to GA's 'Ferocious Frankie' and take some pictures. Both are silver with full invasion stripes and it would be a good comparison.

I'd like to see that too. I actually had the model in the shopping cart but couldn't bring myself to buy it with all the anti-Corgi Mustang feelings. The Gemini Frankie is probably my number #1 alternative.

Of course once I tell you that I have 12 Corgi models I've bought lately that are still in their boxes in the closet you might wonder why I'm rushing to buy another box to add to the pile.

If the camera lens "often foreshortens objects", then why doesn't this effect the appearance of Gemini and Dragon's Mustangs? They look right. Must be Martin uses a different camera only for Corgi models.

Here's my take on this model - pictures not withstanding. This model retails for $34.99 - a hefty price for a small, single seat fighter (I'm paying a little more for FoV's B-26). For five dollars less (which covers most of the shipping) you can get a Gemini Aces P-51. While these aren't "perfect", they are pretty darn close. If you wait a while longer, you can get Dragon's P-51 for $24.99 - a saving of $10.00. Those of us who have Dragon's Stangs ( I've got four) know what to expect especially if they followed Corgi's lead and modified their original mold. Corgi's "D" mold had serious issues. Why didn't they take the time to fix it or create a new mold to rival GA or Dragon? Instead, they pulled a typical Corgi move, went for a cheap fix and then figured they'd ask for top dollar. I don't know about you, but my diecast money budget is tight and I've got to be REAL selective. I've got no problem spending it on the best value for my buck, but is this new casting really the best out there? If it is, I'll gladly apologize and sell off my "cheaper" Gemini Aces P-51Bs.

It's a syndrome that I grapple with on a daily basis .

I never seem to satisfy my craving or need to acquire more diecasts even after I've already splurged on some! Now I know why they call it an "addiction".
