USA AA37501 NEW! Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG 29 FULCRUM-A East German Air Force, JG3, Vladimir Komarow, Preschen Air Base, 1990 Fourth Quarter 2007 In Germany, a number of ex-East German MiG-29s remain in service with the unified Luftwaffe. The East German MiGs were Russian export models and thus are less capable than their Russian counterparts. For example, the engines were downgraded to 90 percent maximum power. The radar system is less powerful, with detection range reduced to about 40km. Even so, these MiG-29s have proven themselves more than capable on practice sorties against F-16 Falcons, defeating them with ease. The color scheme was only used for one flight. This was the last official flight of the East Germany Air Force on September 27, 1990. This special painted aircraft was named die Traditionsmaschine (the Traditional Aircraft).

USA US37503 NEW! Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG 29 FULCRUM-C 2ND SQ., 115 GvIAP, Soviet Air Force, Termez, Uzbekistan, 1990 Fourth Quarter 2007 The Mikoyan MiG-29 entered service with the Soviet Union in 1983. Today, it remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as many other countries. The idea for the MiG-29 came about in 1969 when the Soviet Union learned about the USAF F-15 Eagle. This new fighter jet would be more technologically advanced than anything the Soviets were using at the time. What they needed was a fighter that was more sophisticated and agile.

USA AA38002 NEW! Fairchild A-10A Thunderbolt II 74th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, USAF, England Air Force Base, Louisiana 1989 September 2007 Designed specially for the close air support mission and with the ability to combine large military loads, long loiter and wide combat radius, the A-10 proved to be vital assets to America and its allies during Operation Desert Storm. In the Gulf War, A-10s, with a mission capable rate of 95.7 percent, flew 8,100 sorties and launched 90 percent of the AGM-65 Maverick missiles. A-10s were seldom grounded due to maintenance problems or conditions unsuitable for flying during Operation Desert Storm. No other aircraft could carry as much ordnance over a target for so long, dole out and take as much punishment, and return to an unimproved field to turn around quickly and strike at an enemy again.

USA AA34708 NEW! English Electric Canberra B(I)8 NO. 16 SQ., RAF Laarbruch, Germany, 1972 Fourth Quarter 2007 The B(I)8 Canberra (the “I” stands for “Interdictor”) lost the one-piece “glasshouse” bubble canopy so loved by aircrews, and sported instead a fighter-type canopy. This was offset from the aircraft’s centerline, giving the B(I)8 a very distinctive profile shared by the photo-reconn variant, the PR-9 and of course, the Sea Vixen. In June 1972, 16 Sq. (RAF Laarbruch) finally turned in the last RAF B(I)8 Canberra after a squadron ownership of 14 years!
