Question Corgi Legends Series Stands

There are a few of the Corgi Legends Series planes that I like and have thought about purchasing.
The problem is that I ABOLUTELY HATE the stands. They're all huge and plasticky and clunky. On Tricatus' website, it shows the American desert camo. P-40 on two different stand setups (see attached pictures below). Is the smaller stand just the regular stand with the bottom section taken off, or is this a different stand?

Plus, do these stands attach to the plane with screws, or does the plane just sit on the stand, possibly on pegs? Another Tricatus picture of this P-40 shows a hole in the bottom of the plane just behind the drop tank, possibly for a stand.

My main question : Can another stand work with these planes, so I don't have to see that gigantic hunk o' clear plastic? Will another Corgi stand work or possibly one from another company?

I know I can just display them on their wheels, but I usually display them on the stand, so hopefully there is another option.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Corgi Legends Series Stands

The "second stand" is just a view of the model before it has been completely removed from the packaging!

I have the desert camo P-40, and it is a really nice model. The hole in the bottom is in the place where the stand would go in a regular AA release. It just needs a grommet inserted. I'm sure if you could nab on of those off another model, you would then be able to display it on a regular AA stand.

Personally, I don't bother - most of my planes are displayed wheels-down!

Yes, I also have this one and very happy with it. A great looking P-40! Also snagged a extra one at Tuesday Morning a few months ago to use as a trade or for sale. I also display my planes with the gear down.

Re: Corgi Legends Series Stands

Well I guess nobody will ever be able to accuse Corgi of having weak, wobbly stands. However, the stand should never visually overpower the aircraft which it is supporting, and Corgi violates this one a lot (for example - the cradle stands on their heavies and 1/32nd scales)....not to mention it's just a cheap and ridiculous looking design on the Legends...

Fortunately I'm generally a "gear down guy" anyway..

Re: Corgi Legends Series Stands

I agree, the Corgi Legends stands are dreadfull and spoil the look of the model. I also hate the messing about to get them out of the packaging. Wheels down and no stand every time with these models.AND beware, I left those little plastic bands on mine and found that they stick to the aircraft after a while and when you try to take them off it leaves a mark on the aircraft. Re: Corgi Legends Series Stands

Yes but do not forget that these stands work great with the Machbox P-38, still the only one one out there (I don't count that thing IXO did as a P-38 )
