Hello everyone. I am, of course, a new face here (so new that the system has decided to name me "Checking...). This thread convinced me to scour the web for my own Lane Spitfire, which I found at daveswebshop.com/aa33902.shtml for a fair $81 US. Just wanted to pass the info along to anyone else in the States who might be having trouble finding their own. Note: I am in no way affiliated with this retailer. Just another Corgi collector happy to help!

They are out of stock on that one and as of last week only had the unscarred version.

Yep, they're really hard to come by now but do make regular appearances on ebay. Patience, all good things come to those who wait.

And there's undoubtedly a 'Grumpy' with your name on it somewhere on this planet ZS-VAN ...

(Patience may be a virtue but he who hesitates is lost .)

It's just like the proverbial London bus. Waited 6 months to get good deal on one, and 3 turn up at the same time .My-oh-my what choices.

I have to say though the grumpy looks fantastic.

Ooops!

They don't have half of what they show and must have some aversion to updating the website. I called on the same plane a year ago I think.

Re: 1/32 'Battle Scarred' Spitfire (Lane)

A couple weeks ago I picked up a damaged Lane in 1/32 from Ebay. The seller stated that the prop was off as well as one flap underside and it had a broken aerial. I paid $51 and then $20 for shipping. Not too bad. It came today and I was surprised to see it in such good shape considering...

The aerial was snapped off right at the base but it was clean so I just drilled out the hole and put a hole in the end of the mast and inserted a bit of tiny wire. A little CA glue and it fits as well as my Grumpy. Not noticeable at all and probably stronger than the original. The flap required the same treatment. A new hole and small piece of paper clip sized wire or there abouts. Then I had to bend it to get it back in to its place. Good thing those Spitfire flaps are thin as it needed quite a bend and I thought I might break it. It's not coming out now. Good as new and you can't tell a thing. The prop is left to do but fits on well enough. It just comes off too easily.

There is actually some piece inside the spinner that rattles around in there and must glue to the male end of the shaft from the engine. I am having a tough time getting at it and have no idea how to secure it to the nose of the plane as I can't apply any pressure to the piece. The whole prop will sit in place fine but will never spin right if I can't figure this out.

Anybody know what I mean?

Parsig, congrats on getting the Spit - it's a nice piece of diecast.

You'll have to carefully seperate/detach the spinner from the 'prop base' and the repair should be smooth sailing from then on - good luck/'viel glueck'!

Re: 1/32 'Battle Scarred' Spitfire (Lane)

Thanks Cardinal! I see what you mean but I must say that this spinner was put together by expert hands and is so well fit together that there is almost no seem. I read your post last night and decided to try to do it w/o taking it apart for fear of making matters worse. I did get the piece to drop though the hole in the spinner and with a pair of needle pliars was able to grab it and line it up. I put some glue in the shaft end and sat the spinner in place. It seems to work although not as well as the Grumpy one which has never been fixed. It spins but not totally freely. It's 8/10 at least and that's good enough for me.

This Lane is beautiful and I was wrong to mock it for its yellow spinner. I subbed it for the Grumpy in the case (for a while) and would reccomend it to anyone
