Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

Such a tease. "That said, in time we may revisit the scale, for example to feature a different era." In other words, nothing is in the current line-up, but we're toying with the idea of WWI or Cold War 1/32 jobbies for 2008 or beyond. Remember, Corgi doesn't have a firm plan for 2008 yet (2007 has basically been set in stone with the release of the catalog). Mr. Ross, who contributes frequently to our cousin forum across the pond, has repeatedly stated that he is even now actively lobbying for this or that new tooling or livery for 2008.

Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

Since my whole collection is 1/32 then it looks like I'm kind of screwed. Oh well there is always FOV (sounds of sarcastic sniggering in the background). I'm sure the pooch could have made a better job of it if they tried more inventive liveries. Give me a Croatian 109 and I would buy it.

Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

You could also read that as meaning, no new WW2 molds are planned.

Doesn't make sense that Corgi would give up on the Hurricane so soon.

They could be giving the existing 1:32 a year off to build interest and selloff the remaining stock.

Probably a good idea with these price increases.

Post Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

Very sad news if this comes to pass as I have recently decided to "go large" having purchased the Barkhorn 109 & two Hurries the Lewis & Bader models along with the RAF Benson Mossie.
I have set my heart on a Grumpy Unwin Spitfire but they are getting hard to find.

Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

This scale has never been very popular and Corgi made the matter worse because they didn't include aircraft such as a Fiesler Storch that would have been a huge success because of it's diorama value. Instead they churned out a number of relatively little known schemes that attracted few buyers.

The nail in the coffin was the huge oversize postage costs incurred on these items because of their size. Would you pay GBP 80.00 to have one of these shipped by AIRMAIL to the US or Australia? Not me Jack! Which is why I doubt if the prices will increase much after they have gone the way of the dodo.

Question Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

Come now boys! One of you absolutely hates the Hurricanes, the other buys two!? What gives?

Hi there Nimrod, welcome! Did I see your location as Shropshire? Stayed in Shrewsbury a couple of times.

Post Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

Many thanks for the welcome ZS-VAN I am a Shropshire lad by birth but spent the last 50 years in Cambridge before returning to my roots.
I was only a 20 min drive from Duxford so spent many happy hours there including watching the filming of The Battle of Britain....happy days.

Cool Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

20min! WOW! I've been to Duxford a couple of times and I can assure you it was a great trek. Unhappily not on display days either. Flying Legends is the holy grail of airshows to me. Watching the filming of The Battle of Britian, happy days indeed!

Re: Corgi 1/32 DEAD after 2006

I hope to get to a display (or two) at Duxford next year I very much miss being able to go on a whim....I did go this year but that was for Showbus.
Regarding the film Battle of Britain I worked just a mile as the Spitfire flies from Duxford in 1968 & we all used to dash outside when we heard the drone of the aircraft flying directly overhead.
I think I am correct in saying that the 109s were on loan from the Spanish Air Force as were the HE111s, the 109s being built under licence in Spain & powered by Merlin engines.

I'm not sure about the He 111's myself, but you are absolutely correct about the 109's coming from the Spanish Air Force.

And, PS, welcome to the forum, Nimrod 48, from one of your cousins across the pond!
