The second of the Corgi Swordfish has an interesting history, something I did not know when I purchased the model. Though it is painted in 1939 livery the model actually represents a surviving Swordfish preserved in flying condition by the Royal Navy Historical Flight, Yoevilton, Somerset circa 2005. The aircraft is painted in a pre-war, 1939 livery used by No. 810 Squadron on board HMS Ark Royal. The plane is painted as the Squadron commander's aircraft. The major change in the livery is the addition of the coat of arms of the City of Leeds carried because the city has adopted the aircraft.

The aircraft is one that was built in 1941 and served initially in the Mediterranean based at Gibraltar and seems to have never served in a combat role. Details are sketchy though because apparently all the records of individual combat aircraft where destroyed in 1956. She was brought home to the UK when the Albacore took over in front line service and then served in a variety of training and testing missions. Post war she was a crop duster and a static museum display before being restored to flying condition. She is the oldest remaining Swordfish.

I love pre-war schemes so this one was a must for me even though she is actually a 2005 bird. Some people have reported problems with the rigging but it appears excellent on this model. The crew members are well executed, something not to be taken for granted in this scale.

Mine is certified as number 1097 of 3580.

I'm looking forward to the floatplane version and the Taranto version.

I can vouch for the fact that this 'silver' Swordfish is spectacular, magnificent, second to none etc.

Definitely my first choice of the range .

Anyone who picks this one up will not be disappointed. I must say that it is a more impressive looking model than the Bismark one. I'm actually re-thinking my need to get the upcoming Taranto plane because it looks very much like the Bismark one. I'll have to take a close look at the photos that appear on Tricatus before I pull the trigger.

I need to do a photo shoot with this Swordfish next to the pre-war Hobby Master Dauntless.

Really nice pics! Can you tell me how you got that chiaroscuro effect, or is it a state secret? I can never get the lighting right when I try to photograph my airplanes...
