Tell me about Tuesday Morning

I have read several posts where MHII members describe some of the good deals they have found at Tuesday Morning. Anyone care to elaborate? Why does Tuesday Morning get expensive Corgis? I thought the were sort of a permanent garage sale...

Re: Tell me about Tuesday Morning

TM's are a "high end" close-out store. If you go to their website they have a store locator.

From the info I've gathered - from observation and talking to a TM manager.
It seems they get a larger shipment of corgi product twice a year. Approx. Nov. and June. It seems to be that this "dump" of Corgi inventory has happened just after they (Corgi) releases their new half-year release schedule. (So we all need to be on the lookout NOW for the next TM Corgi round to hit.)

The TM manager I spoke with said they had a connection in Corgi. When dealers have inquired to Corgi about this - Corgi seems to deny that they directly "dump" inventory to TM.

Regardless, we (the hobbyists) seem to benefit fron this in "deals" on planes that we probably would not have bought at full price.

Examples of TM prices on Corgi:
(May/June '05 was advertised in their flyer as - Largest shipment of Corgi ever - or something like that.
1:72 Memphis Belle - $29.99 (May/June '05))
1:72 Blue Angels Phantom - $14.99 (May/June '05)
1:72 NASA Harrier - $14.99 (May/June '05)
(May/June '05 HUGE variety - also: 1:72 Tornado; Buccaneer; 1:144 B-52; Guadalcanal Dio set; Spitfire June '44 US navy; etc.)

3 plane "War in the Pacific" 8th Air force set - $39.99 (Nov. '05)
B-24 "Jerk's Natural" - $39.99 (June/July '06)
B-17 - Bit O Lace - $39.99 (June/July '06)
He 111(?) - Sardina - $29.99
Corsair "Marine's Dream" - $9.99
Nose Art P-40/P-51 - $14.99 (July '06)
"Legends/Hist. Channel" - first dump $6.99 (Hurricane; Lane Spitfire; Me 109) - latest dump(s) $9.99 (Torch P-40; Flying tigers P-40; P-47)
Showcase Noseart - $2.99 or $3.99 (can't remember exactly) - Summer '06
Showcase - $1.99

Etc.

Re: Tell me about Tuesday Morning

The periodically get shipments though. What they get through isd a matter of chance, as not all stores seem to get the same stuff, and once it's gone it's gone. Restocking does not seem an option.

I started collecting though finding one of these. I have been lucky as I've managed to aquire a multitude of tanks, plus 2 B17's (Inc Bit-o-lace), 2 B24's, B25 Hevenly body, the Sardinia He111, and a few of smaller fighters.

Re: Tell me about Tuesday Morning

I visited my first Tuesday Morning store this past Monday. I found a Heinkel HE 111 H-66 - Sardinia for $29.95, and a P-40 Flying Tiger for $9.99. The store looked like a dog's breakfast, but both the clerk and the manager knew exactly where the Corgis were. In fact, the manager, a very nice lady, asked for my name and phone number and said she'd cotact me whenever a shipment came in. The store is about 18 miles from where I live, so driving there isn't going to prove to be a problem.

Re: Tell me about Tuesday Morning

There are many independent inventory liquidation houses that move their acquisitions via Tuesday Morning. We've been contacted by them before, if you're a business with a fax machine you probably have too.

They are buying stagnant inventory for pennies on the dollar.

Re: Tell me about Tuesday Morning

Some of the TM stores in the Maryland area look like they are used for weapons testing. I usually feel the need to shower after a TM visit.

That's very interesting. Just my observation/experience on the forum. The corgi models that show up at TM are VERY consistent nation wide.

(And this is very suspicious/"conspiracy theory" thinking on my part.)

This would lead me to believe that these are coming from a single source - i.e. Corgi vs. a huge number of dealers contacted by a liquidation company dumping a few of their models they can't sell. Based on the info you present, then...either

1) All the dealers are unable to move the exact same models no matter where they are located (which could be true). AND all be dumping the same models at the exact same (calendar year) time.

or...

2) We should be seeing a lot more variety/inconstancy in the models showing up at TM stores. Also a larger variety of different release years in the models showing up. Also some of the same models in different waves as some dealers would hold on to models longer (hoping they would sell) than other dealers.

Please don't take me wrong. I believe what you posted to be true - I just think - based on what I've seen, that Corgi may be telling its dealers one thing and actually doing something else covertly. Obvioulsy you are in the industry and have much more info than me.

I just think what we see from TM, is evidence of a product "dump" from a large single source vs a large "liquidator" picking up surplus models from Corgi dealers all over the U.S.
