My Tornado's stand is getting paint bubbles

I've only ever heard of this phenomenon on cheap/knock-off airliner models, but I just saw it today on my Corgi Tornado stand during my yearly dusting of everything on the shelf. I'll try to take pictures, but most of them were "popped" while examining it, wondering what the heck it was.

Has anyone else ever had the paint bubble on a Corgi, particularly the stand? On the airliner forums many people cited heat and humidity as the cause (plus bad zinc), based on where people lived that reported the problem. The Tornado is one of my oldest models, and has been in the lower-level of the house since purchase. Maybe it's too damp down there? It's a split-foyer house, so the lower level isn't completely subterranean. ::fears for remaining models:: Also on the airliner forums, it's starting to show up on "name brand" models, a few years after purchase. (the cheap ones often had the problem show up just a few months after purchase)
