New BBMF Models Announced To Be Released By Corgi In November 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

Corgi have today announced some Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight models to be released in November 2007.

1/32 Scale BBMF Hurricane r.r.p £89.99 Quota 1000
1/72 Scale BBMF Set (Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane) r.r.p £169.99 Quota 150 (yes 150)

And I presume the remaining 4 are the Showcase Collection models as they have a r.r.p of £4.99.

Collection (BBMF Branded) Spitfire - Quota 3000
Collection (BBMF Branded) Hurricane - Quota 3000
Collection (BBMF Branded) Lancaster - Quota 3000
Collection (BBMF Branded) Dakota - Quota 3000

Hope this helps...

I know it may seem expensive but I think I will have to get the new BBMF 1/72 scale set.

$350.00 for the BBMF set??? I wonder how much I can get for a kidney??

Yeah, but at that prod run it's a bargain I think -- the current set goes for $300-350 on ebay doesn't it? And they made 5,000 of those How they gonna handle dispersement to distributors of 150 sets?

There was talk of individual models. I'll wait and have a look at the Lanc.

Thumbs down Re: New BBMF releases announced..

If they make these available in the U.S. through some retailer(s) then I doubt they will follow the same 2x conversion. Probably $199 or less What in England costs £40 costs about $40 here. Look at the new Vampire. If they are not made available to the U.S. and we have get them from the UK only then forget it b/c the shipping will be $150 That means $500 for the set. Ewscre atthey!

As an aside, Corgi is dumb!

They could sell 3000 of these sets and should stock it, and all other museum planes, at their respective museums indefinately. They'd make a killing. Love to have this set but am not hocking my other 3 Lancs to make it happen.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Angry Re: New BBMF releases announced..

I've totally given up trying to understand Corgi and am reaching the point where I no longer care what they do .

I really like some of their products and would love to give them the benefit of the doubt, but if this report of 150 is true, I find it beyond comprehension. A minimum run of 750 of the BBMF 'Phantom of the Ruhr' Lancaster would, in my opinion, be more appropriate - perhaps this will still happen when they announce the single Lancaster (without the Spitfire and Hurricane). There are many of us who would really like a Lancaster but who are not prepared to pay the exorbitant amounts that the older models are currently going for on the 'second-hand' market.

Better yet, as Parsig mentioned, link up with the museums and they could sell thousands over the next few years and bring many more collectors into this hobby ...

I must concur, Cardinal. When I first discovered the hobby Corgi quickly became my favorite manufacturer. However, after I hit 200+ models and realized I didn't have an overwhelming love for half of them I decided to focus on the larger scales and Corgi started fading. 1/72 is a great scale but in most cases - for me - Dragon, Gemini and Century Wings have my interest there so... At the 1/48 scale Carousel 1 and Eagles International are my favorites and GMP is a close second in the larger scale so.... I guess I am just underwhelmed with Corgi. I have the heavies I want and since I can lay off the others I don't get too jazzed about them. Prices, schemes, detail etc all make me wonder what I really want from my models. As I have said before between my motorcycles, guitars and other pursuits diecast is fading if I am not totally sold on the model because values usually plummet with models but my guitars and scoots go up. I look forward to every new Corgi release in my areas of interest but I never pre-order them anymore because they are no longer must haves in my book.

No offense to my friends on the board who feel differently - it is just that I personally don't focus on Corgi - or anyone - anymore.

Re: New BBMF releases announced..

According to the UK Forum, there will be 150 sets released, but also 1350 each of the individuals models. So if you want a set, pay the money, but if you just want the Lanc or fighters, you can buy them separately. Seems a perfectly reasonable offer IMHO.

But, if I read the info on the UK forum correctly, the 1350 release of each piece will be a Modelzone exclusive. I don't think any US dealers are going to get a look-in on this one, which means we will pay a hefty price for the model+postage from the UK.

This appears to be the depressing reality . With postage to NZ from the UK, the Lanc is likely to have a total cost of approx. GBP150 (i.e. approx. NZ$450 [US$350]) .
