AA34708 NEW!
North American B-25 Mitchell II
NO. 180 Squadron., RAF, Northwestern Europe, 1943
Second Quarter 2007

No. 180 Squadron was formed at West Raynham, Norfolk, in September 1942 as a light-bomber squadron equipped with North American Mitchells. Early in October it moved to Foulsham — also in Norfolk — and it was from there, on January 22, 1943, that it flew its first operational mission against the enemy — a raid on oil targets at Terneuzen (Ghent) in Belgium. Of the six aircraft which took part in the raid, two failed to return.

I like the Halifax.

Junkers JU.52/3MG7E(MS)
MSGR1, PD+KH, Budaros Airfield, Hungary, 1944
Second Quarter 2007

In 1935 the Ju-52/3mg3e was adopted as a bomber/ transport with bomb bays, which could hold 3,300 lb. of bombs and two 7.92-mm machine guns. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, a small number of these primitive bombers were delivered to the Nationalists and helped bring over 14,000 Nationalist troops from Morocco. When WWII started, production was increased by a factory in Hungary and later in France. The minesweeper variant used a large electrical loop to detonate magnetic mines.

AA34708 NEW!
Handley Page Halifax B.III
LK797/LK-E, NO. 578 SQ., Burn, 1944 (Cyril Barton VC)
Second Quarter 2007

Cyril Joe Barton was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was 22 years old, and a Pilot Officer in the 578 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during WWII. On March 30, 1944, in an attack on Nuremburg, Germany, 70 miles from the target PO Barton’s Halifax bomber was badly damaged by enemy aircraft. A misinterpreted signal resulted in three of the crew bailing out, and PO Barton was left with no navigator, air bomber or wireless operator. He pressed on with the attack, however, releasing the bombs himself. On the return journey, as he crossed the English coast the fuel ran short, and with only one engine working, he crashed trying to avoid the houses of the village of Ryhope, near Sunderland, and was killed. His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Royal Air Force Museum.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Attack On The Reich

Wasn't a Halifax just restored in a museum? I remember that it looked very nice in the pics I saw on the 1st Model hangar.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Attack On The Reich

NA337 At least externally. Displayed at the RCAF Memorial Museum. Last authentic restored Halifax in existence. Shot down over Norway while conducting a drop to the underground. Interior work ongoing. Hard to believe this bomber was once 750 ft underwater, in Norway, for over 50 years!

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Attack On The Reich

I really like the JU-52 "Mine Sweeper". Add that to the rest! Now if I get the wife to look the other way when this and 100 more pre-orders comes in....
