I like it alot.....I makes it look more real.I just hope when they come out with it... that it's looks as good or better then the pre-pics that are shown.
Wheathering their models seem to be a learning experience for Corgi..
Remember the Oh-7 B-25.

Yeah, it was rough.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: War In The Pacific

I have to say that "Tommy's Dad" is one of the aircraft that I'm most excited about. I love weathered aircraft models.

Here's Tricatus's profile for this aircraft.

Kinda funny...they missed what should be the most weathered part on the aircraft, the black wing walkway to the cockpit.

True, although it is really easyto apply, and to be honest I have flown some crappy looking airplanes that had new wing walk painted on it.

Thumbs up Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: War In The Pacific

I love the weathered look, if it's done right. My 1:32 scale Lane spitfire is the best so far.
What I find funny is that the manufacturers always seem to feel the need to have a more random pattern to the weathering. Check out how many places in the middle if nowhere have paint missing. As an ex Aircraft Maintenance Engineer I can tell you that if you look at almost any real plane that's "weathered" it's almost always along the leading edges, camlocks and seams.
Mustangdriver is right about the walkway though. It is often touched up with a new layer of paint as it wears so quickly.
Cheers,

Question Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: War In The Pacific

Oh yeah. While I'm on it, ever notice how the props and spinners are always immaculate? Even my Spitfire suffers from that!

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: War In The Pacific

That is funny. The Spinner is one of the most weathered places. I like the weathered look that they are doing, but I know what you mean about the panels. The cowlings, leading edges, spinner, propr, and gun bay hatched would be the worst of it all. I still think it is a great model though, and it will take a spot in the collection.

AA36106 NEW!
Consolidated Catalina MKIB
Z2144, FV-R, 205 SQ., RAF, Seletar, Singapore, 1941
Fourth Quarter 2007

In April 1941, 205 Squadron received its first Catalina, and one of their aircraft had the distinction of being the first British aircraft shot down in the Pacific war when sent out to shadow a Japanese invasion convoy. With the coming war to the Far East, the squadron was engaged in trying to locate Japanese naval forces on their way to invade Malaya and the Dutch East Indies. After losing several boats on this task, it moved to Java at the end of the year from its exposed base at Seletar. When Japanese forces landed, it retired to the south coast of the island and in March 1942 to Australia, where it disbanded on March 31, 1942.

AA36608 NEW!
Lockheed P-38J Lightning
“Haleakala,” S/N 42-67291, 459TH Fighter Squadron, 80TH Fighter Group, Lt. H.H. Sealy, Chittagong, India, 1944
Fourth Quarter 2007

The 80th FG originally formed in January 1942 with two squadrons, the 88th and 90th. Then in March, the 89th was formed. All three squadrons would fly combat with the P-40 “Warhawk.” A fourth squadron, the 459th, was formed in 1943 and, unlike the other three squadrons, flew the P-38 Lightning. The 459th FS/80th FG operated in the CBI theater in late 1943 and 1944. They were known as the “Twin-Tailed Dragons.” Lt. Sealy was one of the top pilots flying the “Twin-Tailed Dragons” in WWII. The squadron nickname was responsible for the great-looking graphics that can be found on this model.
