Corgi 2007 Releases: US Modern Jets

AA35905
UH-60A Desert Hawk - US Army, Saudia Arabia 1992
September 07

On August 17, 1990, the first units of the 101st arrived in Saudi Arabia. There were 2,700 troops, 117 helicopters, 487 vehicles, and 125 pallets of supplies transported onboard 110 US Air Force C-5 and C-141 transport aircraft. Meanwhile, the remainder of the division was loaded onto transport ships in Jacksonville, Florida, and 46 days later arrived in the Saudi port of Ad Daman. The UH-60 Desert Hawk is an export version of the UH-60 Blackhawk (in service with the US Army) used by the Saudi Arabian Forces, which used Desert Hawks during the Gulf War in 1991 side by side with the American units. Based upon its excellent quality, this helicopter was built to take care of all possible roles: as attack helicopter, for armed support missions and for special commando missions.

Sikorsky CH-34C Choctaw - 7th Transport Group, US Army, Fort Eustis, Virginia USA, 1966
December

The Sikorsky H-34 Choctaw (also known as the Sikorsky S-58) was a helicopter originally designed for the US Navy for service in the antisubmarine warfare (ASW) role. It was developed from the Sikorsky UH-19 Chickasaw. It is a utility transport helicopter, with no armament onboard. It was powered by a single Wright R-1820-84 radial engine, and could carry 12–16 troops, or eight stretcher cases if utilized in the MedEvac role. The aircraft first flew on March 8, 1954. It was initially designated HSS Seabat by the Navy and HUS Seahorse by the US Marines. In 1962 all services adopted the US Army designation, H-34 Choctaw. In 1962, under the new unified system, the Seabat was redesignated SH-34, the Seahorse as the UH-34 and the Choctaw as the CH-34.

Fairchild A-10A Thunderbolt II - 81st Fighter Sqn.,52nd Fighter Wing, USAFE, Spangdahlem, Germany, 2006
July

The first unit to receive the A-10 in March 1976, the 355th FW recently celebrated three decades of uninterrupted service with the jet. Although missing out on Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom I, the wing recently sent its 354th FS into combat from Bagram AB in support of Coalition forces fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. The squadron’s jets flew daily operations in-theater from late 2005 through February 2006. Aside from short spells in storage in the nearby Aerospace Maintenance & Regeneration Center, this particular aircraft has served exclusively with the 355th since it was delivered to the USAF in 1979.

F-86F Sabre - USAFE 48th FW SKYBLAZERS, Chaumont AB 24 March 1956
December 07

The Skyblazers were formed in 1948 and carried on through to 1962. The team would receive official status as a team in 1950 and was originally from the 22nd Fighter Bomber Squadron, which was part of the 36th Fighter Bomber Group. The entire wing began transition to the F-86F Sabre during 1953. HQ USAFE decided that they wished to have the team transferred to the 48th Fighter Wing, which meant that the 86th FW Skyblazers flew their last F-84E-equipped airshow during July 1953.

Re: Corgi US MODERN JET 2007 Releases

WOW!!! A-10's that is great! With hobbymaster also coming out with them, well, i think we finally got our prayers answered in 1/72nd scale! And that sabre is awesome, especially to anyone who likes visiting air shows. Flown by Dale "Snort" Snodgrass, man he puts on one heck of a demostration. Can't wait to get it and put it next to a nice 5 x 7 of the plane!

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: US Modern Jets

Hmmm, I would love a Chinook in OIF livery to buy for my brother who served as a crew chief with them. Another year of waiting I guess.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: US Modern Jets

There are a lot of models to be released next year, but I haven't seen any Chinooks, yet.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: US Modern Jets

That Sikorsky is going to be a must have for me. Reminds me of Full Metal Jacket.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.
