Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Fo those that want to super detail their molders, I've found this profile whch seems to be that plane. Note the unusual placement of the swazi and the kill markings.

Those swastikas are typical of early war placement. The kill markings are not unusual either--at least not on the eastern front.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Warbirds upgrade. I recently purchased some of the Warbirds as I reckoned they had potential to become something special with a little bit of work as the cost of purchase was minimal. As the aircraft are in the flying position I decided that they needed pilots. My brother has a huge stock of 1/72 plastic kits and does not use aircrew, was the kind donor. Painted in grey or green thay look fine although some 'amputation' of lower limbs is needed to make them fit.
Cockpit removal is easy enough with care using a sharp scalpel prying gently on each side until they pop off; except for the Hurricane where I pushed to hard and cracked the canopy. Some fitting and cutting on the figure is then needed to ensure the correct height in the cockpit.

As the Warbird Spitfire and Huricane come unarmed it is posible to give them a semblance of armament. The Hurricane just needs some red paint covering the gun ports in each wing. You can use an AA model for reference. The Spifire is a little more difficult and I used an AA Mk 1 as a template. I used a small pointed marker to mark on each wing the position of each muzzle. Again you will need a sharp scalpel using a circular motion to create a small hole in the wing's leading edge. The narrow tipped marker may be used to blacken the small hole giving the appearence of a gun port. The Mk 1X outer mgs can be improved in this way.
Aircraft upgraded with pilots; WB99607 P-47, WB99619 FW-190, WB 99618 ME-109, WB 99610 Kittyhawk.
" " " " and gunports; WB99620 Hurricane, WB99617 MVa Spitfire, and WB99614 Mk1X Spitfire.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Anybody have any luck in coming up with a source for seated 1/72 pilot figures for Dragon, Hobbymaster, and Warbird upgrades?

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

I'm going to try my local hobbyshop. Many modelers don't use their pilots when making their models. Maybe if I offer them $1.00 a piece I can get a supply of pilots. Worth a try!
