Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Hey folks,
I pointed out here a while back that it seems like Corgi schemes for the warbird series are far more exciting than many of the "regular" line up. I know that asking why Corgi markets the planes they do, in the way they do, is futile but I'd love to know what the reasoning is? My only guess would be that the more eye catching schemes will draw in the more casual buyer but I'm not sure if I really buy into that?

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

The Bader Spitfire seems wrong to me as he would not fly a Hispano cannon armed aircraft. His aircraft was a Mk Va armed with 8 Browning .303 MGs. The paint work is also wrong as the scheme shown on the Corgi American site was did not come into use until later in 1941 after he was shot down. The UK site has the correct artwork IMHO. Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

I agree - DB detested cannon and refused to fly with them because they jammed so often. However, if they make if VA, I will buy it.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Just curious, has anyone seen the new Warbirds FW-190 Graf in person? I see one online vendor has them in stock now, if anyone has pics or a review it would be appreciated!

I just got my Graf 190 and the Molders 109.

First the Molders: Where the do I put the Swastika? They've got the kill markings plastered across the tail where it would normally go.

I like the dopple camo but don't know about accuracy.

Graf: I love it. The paint is fantastic. Why is it a Warbird??? Lacks some of the stencils of the Dragon (no tail numbers, fuel markings, maintenance instructions etc... Here are some pics

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Thanks for the pics Parsig9. I totally agree they could have given the Graf Fw the full AA treatment, but that is true of most of Corgi's choices for the Warbird series. I prefer the original Molders 109 from the Aces series to this new one though.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

I second the thanks for the pics parsig! I'm going to have to add the Graf to my collection, but man it would have made an excellent regular release or a special limited edition!

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: Warbirds Series

Well for $20, you really cant beat it. Look at it this way, it's a cheap place holder (meaning reserve shelf space) until a better one comes a long. You can't even find a plastic model for that price-- and you still have to paint it. I too will be adding the Graf to my collection.

Also, I will echo the "what was Corgi thinking" sentiment. This would have been an incredible AA series. I believe it would have been as popular if not more popular than the second Galland.
