Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: WWII Photo Reconnaissance

Any one know if the Spit is 1/72? (Assume all the other are.)

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: WWII Photo Reconnaissance

I'm only guessing, but so far, the 1/32 Spits all have an "AA33xxx" number. Any other numbers have been 1/72. I would guess (and hope) that it's 1/72. I could use another blue Spit!

AA319xx is a1/72 Corgi Spitfire. I could do with a blue Spit too.

AA31928 NEW!
Supermarine Spitfire Type PR Mk.IB
P9931/B, No. 212 Squadron.RAF Seclin, France 1940
A 1/72nd Scale Diecast model from Corgi Classics

No. 212 Squadron was formed on August 20, 1918, based at the seaplane station at Great Yarmouth. It carried out antisubmarine patrols for the rest of the war and disbanded in February 1920. On February 10, 1940, No. 212 re-formed at Heston to carry out strategic photographic reconnaissance duties in France, working closely with the Photographic Development Unit. It was intended to have three detachments each of three Spitfires, but in the absence of sufficient camera-equipped Spitfires, No. 212 was equipped with Blenheims. After flying some operational missions, the detachment in France was forced to evacuate its base and the squadron was absorbed by the Photographic Development Unit on June 18, 1940. It was redesignated the Photographic Reconnaissance Unit in July.

AA36805 NEW!
Westland Lysander Mk.II
AN-B/L4761 No.13 Squadron RAF 1939
A 1/72nd Scale Diecast model from Corgi Classics

By the autumn of 1939, No. 13 Squadron was equipped with Lysanders and operated in France until May 1940, when the group changed role and theater. The following year was spent on antisubmarine and anti-invasion patrols before Blenheims arrived, and the squadron returned to army cooperation duties.

AA32814 NEW!
De Havilland Mosquito PR.I
W4051, LY-U, No.1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit 1941
A 1/72nd Scale Diecast model from Corgi Classics

The first production examples of the Mosquito were photo-reconnaissance machines. The prototype for the “Mosquito Photo-Reconnaissance Mark I (PR.I),” with the tailcode “W4051,” performed its first flight on June 10, 1941. The PR.I looked very much like a Mosquito bomber variant, as it retained the glass nose for camera targeting and the bomb bay doors, but it included five camera ports. The cameras were fitted on steel mounts, but this was later switched to wooden mounts because they reduced vibration. The Mosquito was introduced into RAF service with the Number 1 Photo-Reconnaissance Unit (PRU) at RAF Benson, with a PR.I delivered by Geoffrey de Havilland JR on July 13, 1941.

AA36606 NEW!
Lockheed F-4-1-LO Lightning
1st Photographic Reconnaissance Unit, Royal Australian Air Force, A55-3
A 1/72nd Scale Diecast model from Corgi Classics

Australia’s association with the Lockheed Lightning had its beginnings in August 1942, when two batches of F-4 photographic reconnaissance variants of the P-38E arrived in Melbourne by sea. By December 1942, 1PRU had relocated to Coomalie Creek in the Northern Territory. Following the fatal crash of A55-2 in November, a replacement Lightning was obtained from the USAAF’s 8PRS, and this airplane was delivered to 1PRU as A55-3 on March 16, 1943. The plane was fitted with two K-17 photo cameras.

I'm liking that Aussie F-4....

Wonder when Corgi's going to issue the right pic for the Mosquito...

no4 is right as usual. Tricatus has pictures of the pre-pro, which look like this:

Hello, I'm the guy who sits next to you and reads the newspaper over your shoulder.
Wait -
Don't turn the page, I'm not finished.
Life is so uncertain.
