Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: British Airways Heritage Collection

Ironic........

Corgi are releasing a metal miniature, of Vickers V.C.10 G-ARVM - which has been under 'preservation' with the British Airways collection - stored outdoors at the Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford (like the other airliners in the collection) - till now..........

On August 31st this year, suddenly, without any warning, aircraft enthusiasts were horrified to see the 'collection' s De-Havilland Trident & their Vickers V.C.10 (the ACTUAL aircraft represented by THIS model), carved up & basically destroyed for no apparent good reason ???

The Cockpit section & front fuselage, have gone to Brooklands, on a low-loader, some 75-90 miles away (why bother, it looks rubbish ?????).

From proud intact old jet airliner, to aluminium scrap & a naff front fuselage in a week !!!!!!!!!!

Even 'preserved' aircraft aren't guaranteed a future with this stupid short-sightedness, & crackpot policies of the 'British Airways Collection'........
(not willing to finance the dismantling & removal of old weatherbeaten/corroded airframes to another location........

Far cheaper to wipe out the 'preserved' a/c & save money

For a superb website, with pix of the real deal in flight.....
& her dereliction

R.I.P. Vickers V.C.10 , G-ARVM

Born 1964 ....... Died 2006
DESPITE being 'preserved' in a national museum

AA30511 NEW!
Vickers Viscount 701
BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) Scottish Division, Edinburgh, 1972
Third Quarter 2007

Viscount G-AMOG was the seventh of the original production of the 701 series and was delivered to British European Airways on March 27, 1953. It was sold to Cambrian Airways in February 1963, who leased it to British Overseas Airways Corporation in March 1972. On April 1, 1974, BEA merged with BOAC to form British Airways, and G-AMOG flew for another two years in the new livery, before making its final flight to Cosford in 1976. After 30 years in the open, it was moved to the Scottish Museum of Flight at East Fortune, near Edinburgh in 2006.

AA31003 NEW!
Boeing B.377 Stratocruiser
BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation), London Airport, Heathrow, 1953
Third Quarter 2007

G-AKGH was the first of a batch of six new Stratocruisers delivered to BOAC between November 1949 and March 1950. It was named “Caledonia” in BOAC’s Monarch Class and gave faithful service until being sold in August 1958. BOAC operated a total of 17 Stratocruisers, the first six purchased new and the rest formerly operated by United Airlines and Pan Am, as well as from a cancelled SAS order.

AA36903 NEW!
Junkers JU-52/3M
British Airways, Gatwick Airport, London, 1936
Third Quarter 2007

British Airways Ltd was a private airline company operating in Europe in the 1930s. It was first formed as Allied British Airways in October 1935 by the merger of Spartan Air Lines and United Airways (no relation to the US carrier United Airlines). It rapidly acquired Hillman’s Airways, adopted its definitive name and transferred its UK base to the new Gatwick Airport. Its corporate emblem was a winged lion. Initially equipped with a mixture of aircraft, including the de Havilland Express and three Junkers Ju 52s, it rapidly expanded and established services.

Re: Corgi 2007 Releases: British Airways Heritage Collection

What is really odd, is that it looked to be in really good shape in the museum.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

It was through BOAC’s many changes in their orders that G-ARVM became the last of the BOAC’s “Standard” VC-10s.
