Hobby Craft Bf 109B-2

Well had some more fun putting another model together. This time it was a Hobby Craft Bf 109C. Yep the description reads Bf 109B-2 though, well let's just say the kit has a few problems. Not the best kit I have bashed out and as I said it has some problems. Even though it is shown as a Bf-109C the model is more representative of a Bf 109B-2. To be a C model it would have to have the exposed exhaust stubs and also wing armament, but not on this model. Another glitch in the kit was the placement of the rudder mast, it was sitting dead center on the rudder. I had to remove the kit rudder and replace it with a brass one that I fashioned out of some scrap. All in all the kit does turn out an ok Bf 109B-2 though, nothing fancy, just ok. I have some painted sprue hanging on the wall and found my charcoals, so tomorrow it gets its antenna and some exhaust stains. Over the next few days will also add some more weathering, but not to much in that these puppies did not see much action. I have a few kits lined up for my next project. Choices are between a couple of Accurate Miniatures Yak-1s, Hobby Craft P-35A, Eduard Polikarpov I-16 is what I am debating on now (Yep all 1/48th scale). I just picked up an 1/48th scale Eduard Avia B.534, but going to brush up on my skills a bit more before I do that one. Here is what the Bf 109B-2 looks like now and will still tweek it a bit over the next few days. Kind of like the two blade prop look on the Bf 109.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Wow I'm real impressed with your model Cruves. Very nice, you still have the skills from the old days. I love how this looks, the pre E's are not often built or displayed.

What was the biggest challenge? Nice work.

Thanks Ara1, only real problem with this kit was some fit issues. Kit did have some nice interior cockpit detailing, but was a bit of a bear to get to seat in right (Much sanding involved). Funny thing is the canopy only comes in closed position,,,, still fun doing some of the interior detailing though.

I like how you segmented your paint colors, not an easy thing to do, required much planning I'm sure. I really love this era of Luftwaffe planes, the narrow crosses and centered swastikas always catch my eye. Have you dropped the flaps? Nice touch.

Yep, this one has the flaps in the down position.

Re: Hobby Craft Bf 109B-2

Another issue with this one was no exposed machine gun barrels in the gun troughs. Had to put some gun barrels in the troughs and properly staggered.

Very nice Cruver. I may have realized the Bf 109 started with a 2 bladed prop, but, if I had, I'd forgotten it.

Prop held up pretty good after chewing through the wing.

It looks a bit different swinging a two bladed prop.
