| Italieri 1/72nd Merlin HM.1 This kit is a must for all Merlin fans, and much cheaper than the Revell offering, strange really as it’s exactly the same kit in a different box! This kit is not for the faint hearted, however the more experienced modeller will have a ball. Rather cleverly the kit has been designed to allow the rotor blades to fold, and tail section to pivot on its hinge, sadly though I messed this up with the rotors not folding correctly. Care needs to be taken to construct the rotors to the rotor housing correctly, or you will come unstuck! The interior is superb with the cabin seating and ASW station modelled very well, though sadly the internal dipping sonar winch is missing which is a shame. The decals went on well, however the CU codes are way too large which does spoil the model a little. I replaced the roundals with some Xtradecal replacements I had in my spares box, the originals were not correctly colored IMO! Sadly the FAA’s Merlin’s are rather grey and uninteresting, however despite a lack of unit markings, this example hails from 824 NAS, HMS Seahawk (RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||||
