Airfix Lynx HMA.8

This is an older kit, which I built many years ago as a HAS.3. I bought and built this one a couple of years back, and found the kit has been updated with new bits and decals added for a Royal Navy HMA.8, as well as Brazilian and German Navy examples. The original pieces are included with a nice set of decals for an Antarctic HAS.3 from HMS Endurance, and I was very tempted by the Brazilian version as it looks rather smart, but I stuck with the original plan to build an HMA.8.

The kit is a little tricky, and the fit isn’t that wonderful a typical Airfix trait among its older kits. The new parts don’t seem to fit well against the older parts especially the new nose section which needs a lot of filling around the sides to look anything. Despite this though, with a little patience this kit can be turned into a nice little model.

The decals are surprisingly good for Airfix, and presented no problem especially when using Microset solution.

The model is finished as a Lynx HMA.8 of 815 NAS aboard the Type 23 Frigate HMS Richmond. The last picture gives a great size comparison with the FAA's newest toy the Merlin HM.1!

Cheers. Only the Phantom FGR.2, first kit I've made in months as I've got bored of waiting for the Gemini offering!

Seems very quiet right now in the diecast world, which is probably not a bad thing as I'm a huge Phantom nut and it could be an expensive year!

Re: Airfix Lynx HMA.8

I love it. I was intending on building one of these for my OIF collection.
