Airfix 1/48th Seafire FR.47

I built this kit aback in 2006 and thought I'd share it with you all.

The only thing not out of the box is the canopy, which was replaced by a vacform version by Aeroclub as the original does not line up with the fuselage canopy rails and sits far to high. Despite this it's a nice kit, goes together well with little filling needed. The old problem is still the decals, which are very poor quality when compared to superscale etc, and sadly replacements are not available for this kit.

This model represents a Seafire FR.47 from 800 Squadron FAA in early 1950, just prior to their deployment aboard HMS Triumph to the Korean Theatre in June. I probably should have put the external fuel tanks under the wings, but I just couldn't resist those 60lb RP's!

Planejunky, Another fine build and I hope Hobby Master will consider making one since they have a mold already.

Very nice, Planejunky. Always good to see a nice build of a Spit.

Re: Airfix 1/48th Seafire FR.47

Thanks mate. You would need a totally new casting for this one I'm afraid, as this couldn't be more different from a Mk XIV Spitfire if you tried! The wings are a different shape, as is the tail, and you'd need to consider the tail hook which is part of the rudder. This is the final variant of the Spitfire/Seafire line, after this we went to jets.

A very impressive build and detailing job. One question. Do you normally weather such models or are you a factory fresh guy?

Fine looking work you did on this model.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

I was supposed to do it a while back as it needs some staining around the exhausts, but I'm sure I'll round to doing it a some point!

Not a chance mate, only three squadrons were ever equipped with the type 800 NAS, 804 NAS and 1833 NAS RNVR, and apart from 1833, they looked like this one! Not really enough milage to make a diecast version sadly.
