HMS Ark Royal circa 1991

Here's a nice Dragon 1/700th scale model of HMS Ark Royal. This is an Invincible class carrier, though she is slightly bigger than her sister ships. This is how she appeared in January 1991 with Sea Harrier FRS.1's embarked with Sea King AEW Mk2's. She's since undergone major refits and no longer has the Sea Dart SAM's on her bow.

Also included in the pictures is the Revell model of the Type 42 destroyer HMS Gloucester.

Did she serve in the Falklands War?

No she was too late for that as she didn't enter service until 1985. HMS Invincible did see action though, along with HMS Hermes.

Thumbs up Re: HMS Ark Royal circa 1991

Very cool planejunky! Are they pre-built or is it your handy work? I've always wanted some ships but find them pretty expensive.

No not prebuilt, both built from kits and my own paintwork.

More good looking models, looks like you have been busy lately.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Thanks CC.

Na not quite, the threads I've started here today are models spanning three or four years, only the Phantom FGR.2 is a new addition. I made the destroyer around 2003, and the Ark Royal last year. The big problem is that I suffer real bad allergy to the paint, so don't build stuff as much as I would like. I probably should get round to getting an airbrush, that way I could use acrylic paints instead of enamels, acrylic just doesn't brush well.

Excellent models PJ! I built a few 1/700 ships eons ago and I can appreciate the work that goes into one - far more than is apparent in looking at one. Well done man!
