It also had weak skin towards the rear of the aircraft that would "accordian" in and out, which caused three of the early aircraft to explode!
"Rickenbacker," page 414.

That wasn't the Jetliner as only one was built but the DH Comet 1,the fault was found to be the square cabin windows which caused stress cracks at the corners weakening the pressure cabin and caused them to explode at high altitudes. .
The square windows of the Comet 1 were redesigned as oval for the Comet 2, which first flew in 1953. The skin sheeting was thickened slightly. The remaining Comet 1s and 1As were either scrapped or modified with oval window rip-stop doublers and a program to produce a Comet 2 with more powerful Avons was delayed. All production Comet 2s were modified to alleviate the fatigue problems and most of these served with the RAFas the Comet C2. The Comet did not resume commercial airline service until 1958, when the much-improved Comet 4 was introduced and became the first jet airliner to enter transatlantic service. The Comet was later developed into the Nimrod MR.1 then the MR.2 and now again into the MRA.4 which will be entering service with the RAF shortly.

Great work Sniper I envy your talent

Re: Airfix Nimrod XV232.

Where do you plan on displaying it? I just noticed the top pic has some aircraft in the back, so I can now tell that it is indeed huge.

Sniper,

AWESOME job my friend...especially when you consider the size of the plane you're dealing with.

Cav,

Check out the following Hyperscale link. The Canberra is in 1/72 scale and even though Nimrod isn't built, it gives you an idea of how friggin big this thing is! The Canberra isn't a small airplane itself.
