| Louie's SA-16B I while back Louie had given me a model kit to build for him. It is the classic Monogram SA-16B kit. I did a ton of researching on these planes, and have started the build. Here are some pics. In the first pictures are the old fashioned box art. The men and the raft are included. I then took the parts out, separated them, and then cleaned them with dish sopa, and then let them air dry. This helps get the oils from the molds off of them. I then hit them with plasti-prep. At far right is the Grumman Mallard which is sort of close to the Albatros at the Air Zoo. Louie's aircraft will be finished as the one in the NMUSAF in Dayton. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Louie's SA-16B Next, I shot the interior with primer inside and out. A friend of mine that works for grumman was not only able to get me the FS codes for the shade of light blue paint for the interior, but also some of the real stuff! Once scaled down, it was applied to the interior of the fuselage. Next a base coat for the main fuselage and center section. The outer wing panels will be next, but they are getting de-icer boots applied first. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Louie's SA-16B Crivens! That model is a blast from my past MD. That was one of my favorite models that I put together as a kid. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Louie's SA-16B Yeah the gear works. I am not sure how sturdy it is or how often you should work it, but the box says it is operational. It is a great kit, and I am adding some detail work to it. I am not at the level that some of you guys are, but I don't think I am bad either. | ||||||||||||||

Way BETTER than me, MD. No one in their right mind would commision me to put together and paint ANYTHING! Look forward to seeing pics as you progress on this.

| Re: Louie's SA-16B It was an excellent kit in its day and still is, I enjoyed building it as a kid and again when I was older. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they suggest using a heated knife or screwdriver tip to flatten the axle stub. Try to include that tip in today's kid friendly world. | ||||||||||||||

Oops... Thanks for the correction. These floatplanes aren't my area of expertise, obviously... FVD
