1/72 M-48

Here's my latest. I still have to perform a touch-up paint job.

Re: 1/72 M-48

Nice, Cavtanker!

By a strange coincidence, I just got my e-bay acquired Minchamps 1/35 scale M-48 (USMC Vietnam) model, it's a beauty! For $25.00...

I wish they made an M-1A1 in the same colors as your in the pictures. I'm getting tired of M-1s in desert cammo.

Re: 1/72 M-48

Hello Mr CavTanker.

Is that a ESCI kit by any chance??

Cheers CKS1

Re: 1/72 M-48

Indeed it is. I think the 1/72 Italeri kit that is out now is the same mold.

Re: 1/72 M-48

Thank you for your compliments. This was my first 1/72 model armor that I have ever built.

Now I'm working on the Revell 1/72 Merkava III. I completed the turret last night.

Re: 1/72 M-48

My two latest: Revell Merkava Mk III and Warrior MCV placed to Dragon armor Challenger II for comparison sake. Revell makes some awesome 1/72 armor kits.

Re: 1/72 M-48

Nice work there Cav, sorry if I'm hijacking a bit here, but from your perspective as a tanker , how does the real Abrams match up with the real Merkava?

Re: 1/72 M-48

I honestly cannot discuss the Abrams v. Merkava case. I can assume that the Merkava, like the Abrams, has the disadvantages of a high-rate of fuel consumption and very hot exhaust. But based upon what I have learned through professional development, the Merkava has several advantags:

1. It is the best tank in the world for defensive fights. It has a minimum exposure of the turret. And with the engine in the front, enemy rounds have to go through the engine to get to the crew compartment. That's good for survivability purposes.
2. Armor in urban areas needs to have infantry to clear buildings. Having two dismounts in the Merkava tank is advantageous.
3. I know the Merkava has a mortar permanently mounted. So the Merkava has a direct fire and indirect fire capability.

I believe that the Merkava is a tank that has been built by blood.

Thanks for the insight Cav, and that last line says it all!
