Great looking model! I gotta ask - is that propeller real wood, or did you paint it that way? If you did paint it, would you mind sharing your techniques? Thanks!

Great looking model! I gotta ask - is that propeller real wood, or did you paint it that way? If you did paint it, would you mind sharing your techniques? Thanks!

I could not get the plastic prop to look like real wood... came close with two extra props but no cigar.
I bought the wooden prop from a company that makes them with the same wood that the real Fokker Dr.1's had in WWI.
All i had to do was sand it lightly and stain it.
After that i shot it with a clear lacquer and it brought out the rich wood colors.

And the name of that company is . . . . . .

I believe it was called Cooper State Models out of Phoenix, Arizona.
The owner is a nice fellow to talk to about WWI Aircraft and he knows everything about the
Fighters and all.
If i remember right he had to get these wooden props from Germany that were made by a craftsmen there.
It's been over a year or so since i last spoke to him when i ordered it...It may have changed since then.
