Re: Small Can Be Cool Too---Sometimes.

Surprising how much detail some of these smaller models have. Really want a Hudson now.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

The Hudson in my pictures is an Atlas model which, like all of their bombers, has terrible looking, spindly, landing gear. Their British models also had discolored insignias, with purple used instead of red, so I had to repaint portions of the upper surfaces that were affected and apply new decals. Sure hope Corgi does one in the near future.

Re: Small Can Be Cool Too---Sometimes.

Now that's a nice selection you got there Epapazian..thanks for the photos...you're tempting me to buy some of the Japan made stuff (big bird, f-toys..) in 1/144 you got there...my only concern is the amount of detail, are they decent?

I mean, most of them are plastic, but as long as they don't look too much like toys, thats enough for me.
I can't expect too much detail for that scale afterall.

First I started with large bombers in 1/144, then the medium bombers...and now I'm almost there to start buying some fighters....this forum is not healthy for my wallet

Except for the canopies, which are hard to do realistically in this scale----you can't see the frames clearly---the Takara and Bandai models are amazingly detailed and come with decent decals too. Some minor adjustments are needed along with some spraying to dull down shiny add-on parts, and some lack stands, but that's about it. I recommend the float planes in particular.

Great collection of small scale aircraft Epapazian! I see that you have the Italeri/Fabbri 1/100 F-5E Tiger II as well. It's one of my favourite diecast models from the small scale range!

Thanks, Paladin. One has to be careful in buying the current round of reissues of this series as their quality control effort is terrible. Problems range from shiny and misplaced decals to gashes and other abrasions that mar the look of the models. It took me two attempts to obtain a reasonably decent F5E. The first one came with a fractured canopy that was hastily glued together and sent off in its box. This now rests comfortably along with numerous IXOs, Model Poewr and other models in my "bin". The second try, which didn't have this particular flaw, is the one in my picture.

Yeah, I had similar problems too. I got my Fabbri/Italeri diecasts when it was released in Europe several years back, and even then the quality control was found wanting on many occasions. My P-51 came with a cracked canopy whereas my IDS Tornado had two parallel scratches about half a centimetre long on the tail. Thankfully, I managed to get them changed without much fuss.
