Re: New Ara1 additions

Very nice, Ara. Are your models insured in case the cleaning lady dusts too energetically and knocks one or two onto the floor?

Re: New Ara1 additions

Mate, that Carousel 'Dora' looks nice, but it's the "Cal' Cutie" P.38 that does it for me !!!!!!!!!!!

Ironically, I picked up TWO of the Silver/Blue "Virginia-Marie"("Margaret") '38's, as my local dealer was knocking 'em out for £ 16.95

I figured that even if I hated the scheme, I could use my compressor & some of the 1/48th decal sheets I've got, to transform it's looks (nothing that a lashing of 'Olive-Drab' can't fix !!!!!!!!!

The only fear is removing those silly diagonal (Blue/White) "wing-stripes"

I REALLY, REALLY like the Franklin-Mint P.38........ esp' when ya can pick 'em up so cheap !

Within three weeks, I'd picked-up B.11.E.186 ("Jack"), an (already) Olive-Drab '38

But the "Cutie" looks like the best P.38 they do

Shame it reminds me of the flyer at Duxford, that "ploughed-in" as a Fireball in '96 (as she was painted-up as "California-Cutie") in which 'Hoof' Proudfoot lost his life.
I drove down the M.11 that afternoon, oblivious to what had happened; till I reached my destination & was told; then realised WHY I'd seen an RAF-(Yellow) ASR Sea-King helicopter circling the area.

Changing the subject, BTW.........

Is that P.51 Bodney/Razorback an Eagles International thing ? or what ?

(nice display; relatively subtle & neat....... makes a change NOT seeing 'em crammed in a cabinet !)

Nice line up.

In a open cubical office, I would worry about more than just the cleaning lady. It is a nice, inspirational view to make up for the apparent lack of windows.

Re: New Ara1 additions

Fine looking additions you added to your collection. Just curious, are you going to get one of the FM PBYs?

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Not sure CC. I was interested in the candy stripe tail version but was enlighted by 1250ships excellent appraisal of the model's flaws. Most significantly, the front turret. I fear it's just too glaring of a problem.

Thanks Ed. Ironically, the proverbial cleaning lady did break my 109's pitot tube, you can see it next to the offended wing! I can redrill/reattach, but such is the risk of a public display.

I enjoy having these out for all to see, and to promote the hobby. I'll take the risks; the benefits include having these babies a reach away, all day.

Re: New Ara1 additions

Nice looking display you have there Ara. All of them look very sharp together. You are far more brave and trusting with your collection than I am.

Greetings Hornchurch, thanks for taking a look.

Questions answered in random order...

The P-51 is the EI Patty Ann, a "critical own" for stars-n-bars fans.

While I love California Cutie, I don't think it's the best FM version of the P-38 mold. I think there are several top contenders, many of which are out of print. Itsy Bitsy is a classic, with a wonderful "real plane" history which I will share if/when I own one. The LE green spinner job that Pappy has on his site is also tops (the one that came with a patch). Plus there are others, it's hard to make a P-38 look bad.

OK Hornchurch, you must take back your "silly diagonal wing stripes" comment right now . Virginia Marie is based on an actual plane that has a wonderful Pacific theater of war story behind her. Seems the base commander had left the island for a month and Virginia Marie's pilot had her painted with this intricate blue and white detail while his CO was away; the pilot knew he'd never get away with it otherwise! When the CO got back he was a' steamin' and stopped future "repaints" but Virginia Marie was allowed to stay dolled up. So don't be making fun of the pretty one!

Re: New Ara1 additions

I really need to get a FM "Cal. Cutie" too. That and the C1 Fw-190 are sweet additions to your cubi.
