I recently came across these:

B11B311 F6F-3 Hellcat U.S. Navy VF-27 Lt. James 'Red' Shirely

Now I am pretty anxious to get hold of them. Well, should be another week or so.

Re: New Ara1 additions

Hi guys talkin' Hellcats ^^^^

First, AA and Hornchurch, GREAT F6F grabs there, love the Kangaroos one (White 10) especially! Lucky guys to have that version!

The models I am hoping to present here will be versions never before presented in 1/48 diecast (to the best of my knowledge). Yes both are repaints, but they will be much more than repaints, at least one will be converted to a F6F-5 and I may go as far as a 5N.

I am researching machines and markings galore. I am looking into a very short period in USN history, Feb-May 1945, and am trying to find photographic evidence of what I believe existed but have yet to find proof of. I will not model if I don't have a photo, at least regarding an air group G style markings, if not actual machine numbers. If this sounds confusing I'm trying to keep it close to the vest until I have finished product to show you-- again, my window for both Hellcats being completed is about 30 days from now.

Elmer, I have to tip my cap to you for getting me back into iconic WWII fighting planes. I want production aircraft that fired heavy guns and stood proud in their moment. I want steak dammit even if I have to raise the cow and carve it myself.

Get ready for some new fighting planes in 1/48 boys-- I promise you'll never have seen them before.

Great catch on the Hellcat!

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: New Ara1 additions

If an office visitor comments on the planes I make it a point to put one in their hands, I want them to feel the weight and enjoy what the model has to offer-- the planes are quite durable if you know where to handle to them. For the Lightning it is easy. One thing I do insist for any handlers of the P-38 is to have the person place the model back on the shelf him or herself. The way it feels when the three rubber wheels take the weight off your hands is truly a "wow!" moment--- owners of Lightnings know exactly what I mean. I want visitors to experience that impressive sensation.

The other day, a neighbor of mine and his son came over. The neighbor father saw California Cutie and picked it up with his big mits. His first comment was... well, you can guess... "WOW! This is heavy!" He then snapped off the upper elevator mass balance and didn't even know it. His son, looking mortified said, "uh... dad... I... uh... think you broke it." It was kind of funny actually. Fortunately, I spotted the small broken piece and watched it like a hawk so I wouldn't lose it in the carpet. No biggie, I can glue it back.

So Ara, I hope your office colleagues have more delicate hands and fingers than my clumsy neighbor. Needless to say, I landed it for him so he didn't get the awesome experience of the rubber hitting the runway.

Thanks for sharing Elmer, sorry to hear about the mass balance. Yep, it can be glued...

Hornchurch,

Thanks for showing the pics! Hey, how did you get the prop a turnin'? Did yours come with an engine? (Like Pappy's all seem to do? ).

Hi Ara; I took these (various) shots this morning.... (JUST 15/20 mins before it started raining !!!!!!!!).

It's been VERY blustery here & my M/cycle cover keeps comin' adrift......!

So, basically it's High-Winds whipping in off the North-Sea

(don't I just wish my F.6-F had it's own R.2800 )

I Don't have a speed-dial on my "point & snap", so it's just "pot-luck" as & when....

I'll put some more shot's out, cause Elmer' might just chime in on the next-page later tonight & miss the originals

I'll check to see if I can find some ('erm) "Engine-Power" shots; LOL
