Re: New Ara1 additions

Sharp looking display, Ara. I am jealous... I can't set up a display like that at work. I like your taste.

I hope you don't come in to the office one morning and find that the weight of those P-38s caused your shelf to collapse!

Thanks Elmer! I was wondering when you'd stop by and post!

That shelf is plenty strong and it will be soon holding two very rare F6F USN Hellcats, just you wait to see what Ara has up his sleeve!

Nicely decorated workplace Ara!

I wish I could do that at work, too.

If the deal works out, you'll get a complete review of both ships within 30 days of today... and I tell you that nobody's ever seen 1/48 diecast Hellcats like the two I am digging into...

I'm fortunate to work in a creative job full time so I can have this type of expression in the office. One of the sr. managers bought California Cutie himself this week (for his home though).

Thanks AA for taking a look; you, more than anyone else understands the beauty, size, and pride of ownership of Franklin Mint planes.. I know you own hundreds.

If an office visitor comments on the planes I make it a point to put one in their hands, I want them to feel the weight and enjoy what the model has to offer-- the planes are quite durable if you know where to handle to them. For the Lightning it is easy. One thing I do insist for any handlers of the P-38 is to have the person place the model back on the shelf him or herself. The way it feels when the three rubber wheels take the weight off your hands is truly a "wow!" moment--- owners of Lightnings know exactly what I mean. I want visitors to experience that impressive sensation.

Yeah, I work in a pretty relaxed working enviroment, too. But since adults collecting diecast are still viewed as a little "odd" I rather display them at home. On the other hand my desk is always stacked with paper so I wouldn't have the space anyway!

Thanks for your kind words Ara! I really appreciate it! And yeah, I probably bought dozens lately. And now I've grown found of the 1:8 scale pilot helmets CDC also did. Oh boy....

Right, most of visitors at home think I build this stuff myself. Only after holding one they really appreciate the model. Well, just today a girlfriend of my girlfriend came over and to a look at my collection. To say she was a little reserved about my hobby is an understatement. Actually she told me that she's affraid my the sher impact of seeing that many military icons. Hm, good idea about the "handler" putting it back her- or himself! Gotta try that in the future. But better in a display cabinet not filled with almost priceless rarities. ;-)

Speaking of Lightnings. I have the B11B404 P-38 Lightning French Air Force and B11B546 P-38J Lightning "Virginia Marie" in transit. With just two P-38s before that I negelected the P-38 pretty much. There are a couple such as the Italian Air Force P-38 that I am still looking for.

Cheers,
AA

Re: New Ara1 additions

Great collection Ara1! I collect modern 3rd and 4th generation jets in 1:72 scale mainly, though I am slowly venturing into FM 1:48 scale recently. The P-38 is really cool, and probably one of the few WW2 planes that I wouldn't mind having in my jet-dominated collection.

Raising a BIG smile here, Ara !

I'm presuming these are "re-worked" 'F.M'/Armour F.6-F's, right ?????????

Or, are they standard production models that are just hard to come by ????????????

Me, A.A. & Elmer wanna know !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, bring it on!

I recently came across these:

B11B567 Hellcat USN "Kangaroos"

B11B311 F6F-3 Hellcat U.S. Navy VF-27 Lt. James 'Red' Shirely

Now I am pretty anxious to get hold of them. Well, should be another week or so.
